Just received this camera from E-b-y. Pretty good cosmetically etc. But the battery is coming apart inside the battery compartment due to corrosion. I need a sweet trick or two to get the battery out and to clean the compartment. Thanks

Should clarify, that the battery is stuck and the top of the battery is coming off, leaving the 'shell' behind.

Haven't done this myself, but you could use a stack of small diameter rare earth magnets to take out the battery peices...

Have you tried to remove the bottom plate? The access to the battery and cleaning would be much easier.

Allow me to provide some assistance, kingster. If you look down the Yashica forum a page or two, you'll find a thread titled "stuck battery" started by me. I had the exact same problem you're having.

Now if I could get the damn thing apart so I could check some wire connections & get my GT working again. Or I could always experiment w/ 1/500 shutter speed.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Used a qtip to drip just a tiny drop of vinegar down the side of the battery and after a second or two, the little bugger lifted right out. Popped the bottom plate off and cleaned the rest of the battery chamber, soaked the battery cover in vinegar and it looks almost as good as new.

While I was at it, cleaned up the inside of the bottom plate and put a coat of paint on it.

Gee things went so well, maybe I will try the top plate - NOT. Need more info to tackle that one yet.
