At least they lived a long life...

I used my GSN last night loaded with some T-Max 400. It worked great and I expect it to work for a long time. It get's alot of flak because it doesn't go klunk that everyone says it's suppose to have. It just advances so smooth, Just like a Leica. I have another old beater GSN that when you wind it klunks & sounds like it is falling apart.

It may sound like it's falling apart, but it probably isn't. For the most part, they're built like tanks. If something does fall apart, it will most likely be the screw under the bottom plate that holds the winding gears on. I have had two cameras recently that had this problem. You just stick the gears back on, tighten the screw, and press on.

My GSN is halfway to the graveyard already. The spool beside the take up spool in the GSN refused to engage to the left, so i couldn't rewind my film properly. Its a roll of Velvia 100 to boot :bang:

The camera was given to me by the same person I bought the pristine GSN from so it sits in the depth's of my closet ready for spare parts if I ever need any. It's a real beater but it does work, attesting to the durability of these fine cameras.

Russ, I like what you do to restore these old Electro's. If mine does go wako or I take an itch to releather it I would use your services. I was in Naval aviation working in avfuels. I was stationed at NAS Atlanta/Dobbins AFB. Also home of Lockheed where they built the C5 cargo plane. We refueled many AF jets when they wanted jp5 instead of jp4. I remember we piggybacked 3 5000gal. refulers to refuel a C-5 which was already @ 70% full. The plane captain told up the plane burns 10,000 gals. from take off to altitude. Those planes are awesome. I would of loved to seen a B-1 bomber.

The B-1's full fuel load (JP-4) was 195,000 pounds. At full afterburner, it could burn it all in 45 minutes.
I was at McConnell AFB, Wichita Kansas for 7 years on the Bone. Still miss it sometimes, although I can't imagine being in now. I imagine I would be spending a lot of quality time on Diego Garcia. :bang:

If your Electro should need some help, I would be glad to be of service.

Regards,

Russ
