hi, which will make a better portrait lens? and which do you think is the better deal? or a good deal at all?

1949 black elmar 90mm at $115 (body wear, but glass in good condition)
or 1930 black hektor 135mm $75 (body wear, but glass in good condition)
or should i get the 1972 J9 85mm with viewfinder for $115? (unmarked)

bearing in mind i plan to use this on my IIIc... is it difficult to find viewfinders for 90mm or 135mm? please tell me i don't need a super rare $200 finder for this!
(it was difficult enough trying to find a cap for a summitar!)

oh yah, the seller here in aus has a couple of screwmounts leicas, including user condition leica III and IIIa for around $150 each.
He also has quite a few russian leica screwmount lenses. If anyone's interested let me know, and i'll put you in touch.

Please bear in mind i have no connection to the seller other than being interested in buying a lens from him and have no financial gain from this!

90, 135 and finder

90, 135 and finder

I would get both the 90 and the 135. The 90 takes you a little closer, the 135 is often a little too distant for portraits. I think.
I have a zoom finder for you. has all framelines between 35 and 135. The 135 is probably the winner in smooth oof areas. The image size stays about the same, not just the black frame moving to a tiny view at 135.
The pictures are of a similar finder. Mine does not say 'nicca' and has chrojme rings instead of black. With leather case.

cheers,

Rob.

I would favour the 90 over the 135 as a portrait lens. There's a 1.5x focal length difference, and that translates to a 1.5x working distance difference. If you do plan to make portraits inside, you may not have the room to stand so far back.

Another vote for the Elmar. If anything, it's a little tiny bit faster than the Hektor and allows for a relatively closer minimum focusing distance. At least closer than the Hektor...

The Elmar is the one to go with. Is the lens on it coated? If not, the price is a bit high.

90 elmar !!! I love mine. it is uncoated.. You should be able to find a leica multifinder for reasonable.. I think I payed $30 for mine..off Eb*y
