I bought a 2nd Hand Elmarit 21mm 2.8 The lens looks good, but a closer look revieled something which might be an issue.
There is an artifact on the edge of the lense, about in the center of the image, possible at the 2./3d element.
What could this be and would it affect price and value of the lense?
Thanks for any advice,
Yves

My guess is that some of the blackening (paint?) on the edge of the element has flaked off. It will affect price. It's doubtful that it would affect your photographs to any noticeable degree. Use it as a bargaining point to pay less for the lens.

Thanks for the advice. The seller proposed to fix it in his workshop, but I am not so exited about the idea and am getting Leica-Switzerlands' advice now.

Hi,
finally, after some negociation with the seller the issue had been solved.
According Leitz it is definitely "blackening paint on the edge of the element has flaked off". Accordig Leitz it will not become worse but a repair would anyway be not cheap.
Finally the seller agreed to 25% price reduction. Think 600 EUR at the end is a fair price for a +25yo lens with some faults.
