Generalisations always go wrong. You don't know jack sh*t about what others . More is done by that contemporary generation than you care to see and know. For one, it's fighting a lost and injust war for you, or rescueing victims from earthquakes, taking care of patients in hospitals, picking up your garbage and sweeping the streets, building your houses, and protecting the innocent, the meek, the feeble and the poor from injustice and prejudice in your country and anywhere else. If that makes (my) contemporary generation pathetic, so be it.

The current young generation have to remind us all the time of what they do and they give zero credit to anyone older than 30 for ever having done anything (or doing anything: not all those soldiers, firefighters, nurses, doctors etc. are under 30). They just whine and complain that what they do is not recognised. Previous generations just got on with it and did it.

The car maintenance issues I raised are things that should be checked and if necessary dealt with on a weekly basis. To do these things yourself takes fifteen to twenty minutes at most and can be done on your own driveway or wherever your car is kept. If you want to waste money paying someone else to do that everyweek that is your choice. It means that while you stand and wait for someone to come and change a wheel for you, I would be back on my way in a few minutes. Who is the foolish one there?

It's all easy and doable by anyone. But you can't do all these yourself [and have a job as well]. Everyone is doing SOMETHING on his own, instead of running to a specialist. Some people prefer other things than maintainance of a car; most of us are willing to pay for the "luxury" of not doing what we don't like, if there's someone who can do it for us.

The other side of the story is that too many older people feel the need to deride and put down the efforts and work by younger generations. Yes, they fought wars too but somehow those wars were more just than later ones, their patients were more sick than nowadays, their fires were bigger than we have now, etc.

Who cares? What you consider foolish is essential for another, and the other way around. I don't need to justify my actions to you, so if I wanna wait for the road service to show up and pay a premium for that, that's my choice. Just like it's my choice to ride a bicycle or take the metro to work, and not have a driver's license or car. In your eyes that must be foolish as it takes me much more time to get to work than by car, but I don't care what you find foolish or not. For me it makes sense, and that's it.
