Could i use an enlarger to project slides?
I'm getting a darkroom setup, it seems...
together with a friend, and an extra enlarger that can do MF. I am thinking of turning it horizontal and using it as a very low-level slide projector, since 6x6 to 6x9 slide projection is very $$$.
Should work, right?
Also... the 50mm enlarging lenses are made for 35mm format. Does it mean they don't "cover" MF frames, or it only means that they magnify too much?

Yup...it should work...
With the 50mm and Medium format film you might run out of bellows before it is in focus...and it may not cover the whole image...

Generally the heads aren't powerful, so you'd find a projected image quite dim.

oh yea. It comes with a 150 watt halogen lamp, forgot to tell.

Melting the slide might be an issue. To bright a light without a fan over a long period of time can do that. Keep in mind on times for printing are quite short. Some enlargers do turn sideways for makeing bigger prints. I've done it with 4x5 stuff several times over the years when I ran out of head room.
The 50mm lens vs a 75mm is not that big a deal, just gives you a larger image with the head closer. Great enlarger lenses (which also work well for micro work with a bellows attachment) are very low cost on EvilBay these days. El Nikkors rock and use to be easy to find.

As well as the heat (mentioned above) remember the wear and tear on the transparency too, unless you somehow have a medium-format slide carrier as the negative stage of course. It might be more effective to find one of the totally manual, one slide at a time, old style medium format projectors. Those will have a heat filter, and a slide transport mechanism - however rudimentary it is.
