the sony rx100 taught me that i don't need a finder of any kind to shoot...the eos-m works as well for me...if it had an articulating lcd screen it would be great for me.
image quality seems ok so far...i like the small size.

I agree with you. There have been very few times that I wanted a viewfinder on the M. And I don't want an add-on EVF. I know from experience (NEX 5N) that they aren't a good solution.
The articulating LCD is needed however even if I don't like the associated bulk.

there is now a pic of the back online...it has a tilt lcd screen.

i believe it will have a tilt screen, top corner has protruding squarish element, and down below it has the typical "finger grip" to grab the screen.
Yes. New image of the back:

i found the AF a touch slow, even for $199 AUS, but then talking AF i do have the DP2M...go figure

winter has set in locally and i have not had much of a chance to play with mine but i do like what i have experienced so far.
I have difficulties with XA two weeks ago while walking from Union up to the Bloor Street.
Planing same walk tomorrow and honestly, don't know what to take with me.
Something is different this year, maybe wind chill.

I'm determined to get somewhere positive with my Eos M, and I have to say the M3 in black looks great.
I got it specifically for the 22mm lens, and whilst it's visually very capable, the AF is so slow that it doesn't get out often.
I have to admit that it's capable with the EF Adapter though, (that just wasn't the main thing I wanted).
I don't see a need for a tilting screen, if anything that's more likely to put me off a camera.

you have the new firmware installed?
i have it set for single af and it's not slow at all...
i like the tilting screen for certain shots, just easier at times.

yes, definitely make sure you have the latest AF firmware, i noticed a definite speed increase when i loaded the new firmware. that said, it's not dslr or m43 quick, but i find it usable for candids, although it's not so great for kids-running-around shots.

I still don't understand why they haven't put a viewfinder on it? Maybe their concept is toward "point&shoot" style body with much bigger sensor.....

it would increase the size and cost?
i can live without a finder...
I think that's exactly it. There are millions of smartphone users who Canon will try to 'move up' to a bigger sensor, and they don't use viewfinders.

I do, I upgraded it straight out of the box, I didn't even try it with the original firmware.
I need to do some menu diving to find the particular combination that lets me get the fastest response from it.
with EF lenses the focus speed is more acceptable, but the 22mm speed just hasn't been cutting it.
I'm trying not to compare it to SLR focus speed, because that would be unfair. I brought it to work with the way I do with the Contax T2/T3 and it just can't keep up. (although I will play with the menus and see if I can get anywhere)
I also have the RX100 (lightning fast) and the Ricoh GR (much faster than the M).
I've been deliberately putting in work at the 35 equivalent length because it's a weak point for me, the M should be a great fit, it feels good in the hand, and that lens is very capable, but so far it hasn't wanted to play ball
There's a lot to like about the M, and being able to chuck it into a bag as an APSC back for any EF lenses I have with me is very handy, it's just not what I bought it for.
