epson 4990 flatbed negative carrier (3rd party)

I have an epson 4990 and I really like the quality of the scans I'm getting from it. Some of you may have seen my other recent post where I described my struggles with a newly bought minolta SD IV which I have abandoned and am returning.

That said, I'd still like to try and squeeze some extra quality from my 4990. Especially with respect to film curling. I shoot mostly b/w neg film and the carrier just doesn't hold my negs flat enough. My scans are always slightly distorted. (!!!)

Is there a 3rd party negative carrier for the 4990? Maybe something that will hold my negs flat under some newton ring free glass or with crossbars that fit in the spaces between exposures and flatten everything out?
 
I have the anti-newton glass from Doug Fisher for MF. I think I'll ask him about cutting me some strips for my 4490. I read your other post on the Minolta trouble-at least the Minolta neg holder flattens the film! I'll let you know if he can do it.
 
aad, what do you mean about asking him to cut stips for you for your 4490? I am confused.
Do you like the holder? Does it work well for your MF negs?
 
The glass is too wide to fit the 35mm film holder. My 4490 holder will hold 2 6-frame strips, but doesn't restrain the film between frames. If I get 2 strips of glass, they'll hold the film flat. I'm not familiar with the 4990 holders, I had assumed they were similar to the 4490.
 
I've got the 4180, which I'm fairly certain uses a similar negative carrier (?). I've never gotten a distorted scan, but I have gotten Newton rings, which seem to be a combination of negative curl and dirty scanner-bed glass. The best remedy is to flatten the negs, as much as possible, after processing. I put mine in a sleeve and then into a 3-ring binder with a big notebook (processing log) inserted inside to act as a weight. It seems to work pretty well.
