Epson case

I've no experience with the Epson case. I do remember a thread many months ago about them though.

I think we RD1 owners need to create a little demand for one of the Zhou brand cases for our cameras (LINK). I would love a half case for around $75 US for my camera.

I'm not sure if those Epson cases are worth $140, really. I've never seen or held one, and I'm unsure whether they're (hand) made of real leather. For about $220 you can get a hand made all leather Luigi case for the R-D1 from Luigi's eBay shop.

I have the Epson never ready case. It is leather and the top detaches - rarely use the top half. Its an OK case and protects the camera where it needs to. Access to the SD card slot is good, but if you need to change the battery you have to take the case off - its only held on with a tripod mount screw though, so not difficult. If I didn't have one I might not rush out to buy it, but I'm happy enough with it.

I have one and like the previous poster only use the bottom half. The lens snout on the top half is too short to accommodate most lenses - so be warned. It's so long since I've used the top I can't remember which lenses are OK - I think the 40mm Nokton, 35mm Summicron sized lenses.

Bob.

I like how the Epson case seems to allow you to swivel the LCD...with the Luigi it seems you are committed to opened or closed. And the Matsuiya store sometimes just posts them with no reserve, to see what the market is bearing I guess. I saw one go for around $70.

Well, hmm, gee whiz.

What would you guys likes to see in an Epson RD case ?

Pretty simply, I'd like a handmade, top quality, excellent-smelling half case, that allows the lcd to do it's thing. Their really isn't much to the bottom half of the Epson case, although it might involve some complex cuts.

Access to the SD card and the battery. And being able to see the screen.

Kiev 4 case. $8 or free with a Kiev camera ($25-50)
Works with lenses up to the size of Summilux 35 asph.
Top detachable if you can exchange pushbuttons yourself.

The Benser (as in Walther Benser) M case fits the RD-1 beautifully. I don't use it as it was intended though (strap passes thru grommets and case slides up the strap). I secure it to the tripod screw with a thumbscrew purloined from an old ERC. The Benser case is very soft leather so it just scrunches out of the way to use or to change the battery.

Here is another one...
I was at a local shop just a while ago and got this for 10$ CDN; it was in the "good-ridance- film-SLR-stuff" bin.
It is a minolta SLR case that fits the R-D1 perfectly.
The model number is CF-70 for the half and CB-70 for the cover (I got it as one set).

PS: that little thingy seen inside the grip space is an extra battery; it gives me very good grip.
