We all know that our R-d1 can fail us sometimes it happen to me that my R-D1 shutter was malfunctioning after 3 or 4 time whould not fire , then start again then nothing , was not a battery pb but rather a shutter malfunction and circuit problem .

I have sent my camera to Steve Camera in LA what a great service within 3 days he fixed the shutter problem and circuit problem no need to change part CLA and adjust the rangefinder for $285 . Outstanding service fast with a 6 month warranty and a phone call from Steve Choi to ensure that I was happy and that I received the camera on time ,

Believe me we no hesitation we have found our professional R-D1 service when out of warranty no need to worry

Sorry to hear your having problems, thats exactly what happened to mine, 3 days into owning one, i just sent back for refund! cost is too much for unreliability for me.

Good look with yours!

Sylvain,
It is great to read that Steve's Camera was able to fix your RD1. Jonas Yip sent his camera to Steve's and he wrote that they did a good job fixing it. Steve's may just become the "semi-official RD1 after warranty garage."
Take care,
Michael

I am glad to hear that the problem could be identified and fixed. The frequency of the shutter problem has increased substantially in recent weeks, and not even a new battery could cure it. I sent it to Epson Hong Kong a couple of days ago, and I hope they are as competant as Steve.

I'll second that...sent my R-D1s to steve for a rangefinder adj ( it was perfect and had been for 6mos, then knocked it out) he turned it around in 1 day and cleaned some stubborn dust bunnies off the sensor. I've taken many things to him, very reliable.

This is great news. Does he have access to ordering parts if he does need them, or is Epson not being cooperative.

I did send to Steve the R-D1 web site developed by one of our member and I am sure he will order what he can order , howevcver if the problem is mechanical such as shutter he can fix it easily whitout having to replace any part

I suggest that you can contact Steve at steve camera for more information
at (310)397-0072 before you ship the camera

Sylvain,

Do you know what exactly went wrong with the shutter and circuit? My camera was sent to Epson for shutter problem about 2 weeks ago. I called a couple of days ago to check the progress, but they were still clueless about what went wrong.

not really sure part was mecahnical , part circuit problem Steve said was easy to repair and should ot happen again may be the easiest is to contact him by email and ask as he said it was not the first time he had to repair this shutter problem

I just called Epson Hong Kong to check the progress of the repair, and was told that I could pick it up tomorrow. The technician explained to me that the shutter problem was caused by a sticky lever in the shutter assembly. The total cost of the repair and rangefinder adjustment came to about US$60.
