Epson Scan + v800 all of a sudden scanning everything pure green!!

It's almost as if Epson and vuescan fails to remove the orange mask, isn't it? Don't have a solution, other than trying the holder and see if thumbnail view changes anything...

It's most likely your transmission color profile that is corrupted. I know how to replace it on a Windows machine but not on Mac so hopefully someone who knows hardware profiling/color management at the os level with Mac can walk you through on how to replace it.

Your scanner seems perfectly fine.

I'm glad it worked out. Seems like your negative mode was either influenced by the surrounding holder or simply failed to negate the orange mask for some reason. Try this profile fix next. I'll check the vuescan file.
 
I mean I want to agree with what you guys are saying but how can you explain the fact that two other computers had the same issue???

I will google that but I dont understand what im supposed to do with this location? How do I fix the profile?

I see "SFprofK (Perfection V800).icc" but not sure what to do from here.

Also, nothing worked out yet! The negative mode cant be influenced by the holder because the issue persists even when I am not using any film or holder.
 
Well, you're getting closer with every step to a solution, so doing it will help narrow it, you wanted help, didn't you? 🙂 Maybe Netsoft2k can explain what to do with profiles.

So at this point I get the following out of what's been done:
The scanner fails to produce anything in the green channel when doing a negative scan. Positive is fine with Epson Scan, which means it's not your hardware that is causing the issue. Unless when you select Negative as media it tells the scanner to do something specific with the hardware, which I doubt. I believe it just reads a raw data and applies the inversion and tone. To me it seems like a software issue, something somewhere is screwed. I would consider checking with a computer running a different OS version along with a proven currently working setup, basically just replacing the scanner with yours (all connections remaining from the proven one). I doubt you'll find another V800 user close-by though. Don't know what else to suggest at this point.
 
I agree that the whole thing is bizarre but there is nothing else that would explain your scenario. I work with many different high end scanners and also have an Epson V700 and though it is very rare, profiles can be corrupted.

Please message me your email address and I will email you profiles from my machine that are working just fine. There is an easy way to override the color profile in Vuescan which I'll walk you through as well.

BTW, SFprofK is not the one you want. You should be using the SFprofT for transmission.

Yes all apple/osx

I want to blame apple/osx but ive been using it on macs for 16 months as I said working amazing until last week
 
I am using OSX colorsync utility to read what color profile the epson v800 is using and it says its using a "Generic RGB" profile. While that sounds wrong it shouldnt be outputting green preview? Changing it does nothing for the preview.

At least Vuescan does alter "hardware parameters" when different input types are selected, so the quoted text above is not entirely correct. Vuescan boosts green channel and blue channel (even more) when 'Color negative' is selected as media type and scanner supports individual per-channel exposure. I don't have V800, but I have scanners that produce visibly different raw files when scanned with 'Color negative' vs. 'Slide film' media type. And this is not done in software after the scan but rather through altering the exposure time for individual RGB channels during the scan.

Anyway, it sure is one of the most bizarre issues I've ever seen. Unless there was some software (that messed up color profiles) installed on all of the machines, this doesn't make any sense. I would definitely use Vuescan to troubleshoot this issue as Silverfast and Epson scan are less flexible and we don't know how the things are done under the hood.

In Vuescan verify that you have selected 'Device RGB' for 'Output color space' in 'Color' tab and 'Raw output with Scan' in 'Output' tab. Compare the resulting raw files that you get with alternating 'Color negative', 'Slide film' and 'Image' media type in 'Input' tab.

Also check what you get if you set the 'Media' as 'B/W negative', 'Bits per pixel' as '16bit' and 'Make gray from' set to 'Green'.
