Hello there... I have a very quick question so that I can put my mind at ease. I just picked up an Epson V750 Pro... a big baby compared to the Coolscan V ED that I have been using.

When the Epson is turned on and also when it is scanning, there is this mechanical noise coming from the scanner. It sounds like what I would imagine a futuristic robot would sound like when it moves its arm or torso... Is this normal?

Mine also make a hell lot of noise if that put you at ease some how, every start up and move to a new frame it sounds like something is being "aligned".

The Nikon CS9000 sounds terrible, like it ran out of oil and it's stripping all it's gears, but in actuality it is just fine.

Not being able to hear the sound yours makes it's not possible to compare but I suspect what you're hearing is normal. Mine makes a fair bit of noise whenever it is working; ie. when the head is moving...
