I wonder why everybody are so crazy about cron 35 v4?
it's made like a toy, it's hard to focus with it, it costs more than previous versions, his IQ doesn't seem to be obviously better

Essential? Hmm, not sure. But what I've found to my liking, after owning many lenses, is:
Leica 50mm Summarit f/2.5
CV 50mm Heliar Classic f/2
Zeiss 35mm C-Biogon f/2.8
CV 35mm Color Skopar PII f/2.5
I can rely on each one to give me great images and any errors would be mine... unlike some focus-shifting pieces of shat.

BUT it's an internet legend (myth?) though...

My cup runneth amok.
I get by with a 40mm Summicron and a 50mm V.2 Summilux. I could live with the 40 and a slightly slower, modern Leitz or Zeiss 50, if I had to. But the 40's the "essential" one in the mix, the one I wouldn't want to hit the streets without.

I got my 35 v4 as the only available good second hand 35 in town, pre www. I knew nothing of its reputation until years later. I like it. I have it. I don't want to do without it. For fast work I could not manage nearly so well without the tab. I like the pictures it takes. It is more compact than most others and it is fast enough at f2. There's a better lens I should have with these factors?

Regardless of which is "better" they are both good enough to take excellent photos.

CV 15mm/4.5
CV 35mm/1.4
CV 50mm/1.1
A great walkabout kit, each a lens with it's own character far more than each just being a crop of the one before it.

I like my zm c-sonnar a lot. But I can't say I own any essential lenses, or any other gear for that matter.

I think the only lens I'd really miss if I had to switch systems for any reason would be the 21mm Super-Angulon (f4 in my case). My other lenses, I could find replacements for, but the SA is simply unique in so many ways...

Essential ... changes with time for me.
For me too. Right now it's the 35/1.4 pre-ASPH. 50/1.4 ASPH and 28/2.0 ASPH are right up there as well. Shot with the 24 and 75/2 and nothing else for a while this summer.

I will never understand owning more than one lens of the same focal length.

The last lens that I'd sell would be the 35/2 ASPH.
When I head out with just one lens, it's either the 35/2 or 50/1.5 CV. My standard 4-lens setup in a Domke F5 bag adds the 24/2.8 ASPH and "fat" 90/2.8.
The 24/2.8 is great, but rather large. I might get a CV 25/4 and carry both the 21/4 and 25/4 in almost the same space as the 24/2.8, but the 24 is really nice.
