Hello one and all, Well I seldom publish public recommendations for some- one or someones business, But this time credit is due. I sent a Canon _P to them that was about an exe. for service, shutter speeds were slow, the wind on was kind of dry etc. etc. When I got it back it looked almost new, speeds were right on, the wind on was butter smooth and they even repainted the CANON engravings that had the black paint missing, and it was CLEAN! They have done a Leica LTM for me and it came back looking and operating almost new, And their service turn around was FAST on both. WMMV as a disclaimer but I am satisfied with money well spent. Regards, Dave;)

They're nice folks. I live fairly close, and I've taken lenses in on occasion just to have them verify that the lens is focusing correctly. They've happily checked them for me without charge, while I waited. As Dave Said, YMMV, bit I'd trust 'em.

Regards!
Don

Some time ago they got a write up in a Popular Photography issue, but it's good to have this information confirmed with testimonials like yours. Thanks! :)

Im sending off my Bessa R for CLA and RF alignment. I'll report back my experience. Anyone out there used them? Ive heard good things so far.

I live within easy driving distance to Essex and take all of my cameras there for CLA, adjustment, etc. I have only good things to say about their service. They are very professional. You don't hear as much about them as some of the solo practitioners here on RFF, but based on my experience I'd say they are on a par with the best. It's a real treat to see all of the vintage cameras, and especially Leicas, lined up on the shelves waiting for repair and adjustment. You'd probably have to go to Solms to see that many any where else.

Monday morning I sent them an email inquiry and Monday night got a response to please send in the camera for estimate of repairs. Very quick reponse always gives me a bit of confidence in someone's service. If all goes well, I have a couple Yashica rangefinders(500oe and GL) to send them.

They have an email form you can send them:

I am wondering what it cost to tune up the Canon P as I just received a Canon 7 that is working great but wondering what it would cost to clean, etc from Essex?

They CLA'd a Canon RF for me a couple of years ago and did an excellent job at a very reasonable cost. Highly recommended.

Yes, they did a great job on my Konica Auto S3. Lightning fast, too!

When I lived up North, I used Essex for lots of Leica and similar stuff for 10 years or more, with no problems...And when you need something done fast, they are very accommodating...And, what has not been mentioned, as far as I know, they have special rates for dealers...

In the old days, and maybe still now, they will also buy basket-case cameras for parts, but don't want some stuff and pay very little for those they can use...

(Years ago, someone gave me a Rolleiflex that was in a safe in a house that had burned down...I took the parts to Essex and they bought them; they were brass and, I guess, hard to find)...

Highly recommended! If it's a simple CLA and you know the price beforehand, tell them to go ahead and do it. otherwise they send you a letter for approval like Leica and it takes additional time.

Good to know. Mark Hama's been a bit slow in responding lately, even after his return from Japan. Thanks for the recommendation.
