Even with an M9 Ken Rockwell never changes

Strangely enough, what I am about to say is basically meant as a compliment about KR:

He is the most Expert Troll on the internet.

He finds which way the prevailing wind of opinion on the internet is going regarding photography, and then he tacks in the exact opposite direction. It takes quantities of cognitive dissonance that are incalculable to agree with everything the man says, as he changes his mind quite often. This is what keeps people coming to his site- the train wreck aspect. Fortunately for him, he also provides real, useful content, once you figure out how to distinguish hyperbole from fact in his equipment reviews. Generally (but not always), if he says a given lens is pretty good, it is usually pretty good. If he says it is pretty bad, it is generally pretty bad.

A while back I emailed Ken about something he wrote (no longer important), which I thought was absurd. This led to a few back and forth emails that turned out to be quite cordial and interesting. In the last exchange, he wrote to me: "Remember, I kid about everything on my site."

"While often inspired by actual products and events, just like any other good news organization, I like to make things up and stretch the truth if they make an article more fun. In the case of new products, rumors and just plain silly stuff, it's all pretend. If you lack a good BS detector or sense of humor, please treat this entire site as the work of fiction that it is. it is the product of my own imagination.

This site is provided only for the entertainment of my personal friends, dogs, family and myself. I've never promoted this site. If you're reading this, you got here on your own." [Or, from some thread on RFF. :) ]

Ken Rockwell's reviews I read once with a smirk, Sean Reid's reviews I read and re-read, and go back and read again. That about says it all.

I learned to dislike Ken Rockwell on This Site...

I learned to dislike Ken Rockwell on This Site...

Frankly, I enjoyed the man and his site until I started visiting here. It took all the derogatory posts about him here at RFF to truly appreciate all the things that are wrong about Ken Rockwell. (TIC)

As far as the image... I find it evocative, at the very least. It reminds me to go to Don Metz's Neon Highways project on Pbase:

and spend some time looking at the disappearing symbols of our old travels. Interestingly, I ate often at the Kent Diner during the 40's and 50's, when we would travel to my grandparents. I met and visited with Don when I purchased the Fuji GSW690 he took many of the shots with for the Neon Highways set.

Nice man....

And in Retrospect... I think I still actually find Ken Rockwell somewhat informative and I sneak over to his site every now and then, just as I suspect some of you may also be doing. Else why does his name come up so often on RFF?

And regarding Ken Rockwells apparent approach to reality.... if we don't treat the majority of the things we see in this world as BS, we'll all end up in therapy at some point. Life, taken seriously is quite frightening. Lighten up!!!

If Ken Rockwell is like a seven-year-old with a stick, the RFF is like a big, inviting nest of ants.

The analogy in some ways extends to intellect – there are some wise old ants on RFF, and there are some individuals who operate on vary basic, automatic nerve impulses.

Also, a sense of humour is a major distinguishing factor between humans – even seven-year-olds – and dumb animals. Or insects… :D
