I think the move to Mirrorless will come in segments. It's got some compelling advantages in the wide to "normal" range over the DSLRs on the side and the RFs on the other. Small - actually very small - APS-C sensors that can truly fit in your jacket with a lens in front of them is an amazing fact of life today.
I personally jumped on the Fuji bandwagon within a week of the x100 being on the market (and don't regret that) and now Sony, Olympus, and maybe a couple of others are just as good, so my comments aren't really about Fuji but all of these new cameras.
For me, the change is as big as guys in the 50s felt about the move from Graflex to Leica in terms of weight, size, power, capability etc.
I'm really excited about where mirrorless will go. It won't take over the world, but neither did Leica...

If you like 35mm SLRs you're probably right. However, those who like other formats or other types of camera will say (quite rightly) that you're wrong.I have a Nikon F (with several lenses) I purchased new in 1972. If I were still shooting film, there is no film camera made anywhere or at any time that is better than that Nikon F.. . .

Prediction:
The first fully professional-grade-performance mirrorless cameras that do not have a battery life problem will be made by Nikon and/or Canon.
Check back in....3 years???

Been shooting the Fuji X-T1 this past week and I routinely get 800+ images on one battery. I haven't actually exhausted a battery yet, so I think I could get over 1,000 shots on a battery charge. I don't chimp much and use the "EVF+eye sensor" setting for the viewfinder. This way the LCD is always off and the EVF only turns on when I bring it up to my eye. And I DO have the performance setting ON.

The best camera is one that still works!
I think DSLRs will diminish but not disappear. Cameras that can accurately track a fast moving object while blazing away at 12 fps will always have a niche in sports photography and personally I don't think any mirrorless camera is anywhere near that sort of ask yet!
The well heeled consumer market is their comfort zone and will be for some time IMO.

I don't know the answer, but I will tell you that I won't be taking other peoples' word for what's good. Everyone was raving about the Oly OM-D finder, and when I had a chance to use one I found it a miserable experience, no better, maybe worse, than one of the first cameras with such a finder, the Canon Powershot Pro1 I had ten years ago. For now, I'm sticking with Nikon SLRs and Leicas and I"m going to be very wary.

once fuji comes out with a full frame X1S, it'll be 95% there (just need some weather sealing and boom, it's time to relax and put your feet up and grab a beer).

Would a carpenter say, “I only use a saw. Hammers are on their way out.” I use both small mirrorless cameras and big DSLR’s. They're just tools.
