And if the re-release any lenses - variants in LTM.
Or is that just me.

I'm very glad that I'm not the only person on the planet that would love to see a Nikon digital rangefinder! I brought up this topic on a couple of digital forums and was struck down by the angry anti-retro mob.
How did Leica do it with the M8? I'm sure Nikon can do the same. Hopefully Nikon won't price the new rangefinder as high as the M8!
I think that the ideal setup would be a Nikon digital rangefinder with S mount and a new series of optics: kind of what Cosina did with their Zeiss F mount manual focus lens series recently. The new Zeiss lenses are expensive yet they seem to be selling quite well. That tells us that there are still many people out there that despite digital technology are willing to purchase manual focus, quality optics.
If Nikon were to market the new DRF (digital rangefinder) as a low light performer, with a series of new high end optics, the ability to accept old S mount lenses, I'm sure that it would appeal to both collectors and street photographers as well. If they were to price it around the D300 I'm sure they would not be able to meet the demand.

The subject of a Nikon Digital Rangefinder seems to be the hottest topic all over the net. Lots of info about a worker from a Nikon sparts supplier spilling the beans with total disregard to non disclosure agreements. Or is this another rumour. Anyway I wait with anticipation for any digital with an "S" mount.

Don't eXchange Freedom!
just to add more noise on the subject... Zeiss just went with a new Sonnar 50 1.5 on S Mount.
Ordered until December 31st and delivery by Zeiss next spring. Price, the same as the M mount. 1000 €.
Now, why should they create a new lens (even on small batch) for a a mount that is supposedly dead.... why not use the glass on M mount. That was a sure sell! Right!
May be they just know... or Mr. K-San just want's to play a bit.

As long as we're dreaming, can you imagine what a fast zeiss rangefinder lens like the 50 1.5 would be capable of paired with the D3 sensor (usable 25600 ISO)? Crazy stuff.

Forget the Zeiss. The Nikkor 5cm/1.4 beat out the Zeiss 57 years ago. How about the same setup with a Nikkor 50/1.1?

Did it beat out the zeiss because it was better or cheaper and more available
In essence if nikon made a rangefinder digital now,i'm sure I would buy it to put
leica lenses on it.
