Ever been superficial with your camera purchases?

Years ago..at a tag sale..there was a mint Kodak instamatic in box..w/unused flash cubes etc..like it originally sold back in the 60's when I was a kid..5 bux..and it was mine...

I just picked up a beautiful P, just because it was so pretty. I rationalized it by the fact that I already had LTM lenses that I could use on it. My new J8 seems to focus perfectly on it judging by its infinity focus, while on my Leicas with LTM-M adaptor it will not reach infinity in the VF, but does in actual use.
But.. it just doesn't do it for me. The VF and especially RF patch is not remotely as good as a Leica M, or Minolta CLE. And the body feels hard and angular to me. Weird because my M5 and CLE are also angular but for some reason much more comfortable to hold.
To be fair, you can get two or three Ps for one Leica M but I guess there is a very good reason for that.

My P. What a looker. That'll teach me for being so shallow!:

So, buying the P just because it was so pretty has not yet worked out for me.

Yeah... P not working for me. Having just handled one of my Ms, after the film is done in the P I'd never use the P again. Just doesn't compare.
Anyone want this beautiful P?

OK, I'll admit one. I just bought a Leica Sofort recently. Yes, I know. It was completely superficial in the truest sense.

I have the Instax version (Keanu Reeves Neo Classic 90 version) and while they are the same camera, the Sofort definitely looks nicer.

Yep, agreed. I had that one a few years ago and wanted another instax since the monochrome film came out. I decided to go all out and get the camera I really liked. It's a complete rip-off, but I don't own much that isn't practical. This is the one thing I'll have that can sit on my desk and look nice as well (when I'm not using it). The funny thing is that the Neo 90 is already the superficial version for Fuji. Leica just decided to go even further.

As a general rule, GAS = superficial purchase syndrome.

My name is Roland and it has been one week since I bought my last lens.

Huss, I always thought the P was gorgeous, the "Bauhaus Leica". Try a Nikkor 10.5cm/2.5 wide open on it, that is a very special portrait combo. Will require another superficial purchase though. 🙂

(Why ? In contrast to the Nikkor 8.5cm/2, which is much "sharper", the 10.5cm is the only classic lens that I know to be optimized for bokeh, i.e., under-corrected spherical aberrations, see also http://nikkor.com/story/0045). And the P's 100mm frame-lines and 1:1 finder make it very usable with this focal length).

Roland.
