ever get tired of internet forums?

I just take ANY kind of internet interaction with a bit of salt. Life is too short to waste time with people we dont even know. Like it here? Stay. Partiticipate in a construtive way. Dont like? Find a place for you....start your own ...
I think this is valid for all foruns, not only RFF.

Just my 2 cents.

Alpha maleism. You find a new group of people, throw some weight around, shake things up, and move on if it turns out they don't need a new leader.
That... and a bunch of people who seem to not have enough of a personal life to have friends/family to spend time with and have to get their interpersonal socialization on-line.

I marvel at (looking across the many photo-related forums) the number of: egg-heads who always have to be right, the lonely who seem to stay on-line all day and night talking about anything, and the scam artists that use every technique from outright thievery to pity to get stuff for free/cheap.

Not saying that there aren't a lot of really nice people in the forums, but I'm quickly approaching another of my "stay away from the internet forums" phases of life.

My wife likes to quote this line: "the genius keeps quiet, the wise one mumbles and the idiot pontificates."

Whenever I feel like replying to something, I remember this idea. Most of the time things blow over.

So, good ole Frank is in APUG? Didn't his reputation precede him? Long time ago, I joined (just like I joined Fred Miranda), but never felt the kinship strong enough to post confortably.

Has anyone seen this B.S.?

This is totally ugly. In every sense of the word.
His rants are pretty much nonsensical and his accusations unfounded. All those porn pics are links to retailers' websites, other forums or actual porn sites. Who's he trying to impress? I can't believe he was ever a member here!
BTW, he also likes to make comments on Chris Weeks' blog, and he's just as much as a suck-ass the rest of Chris's minions - mimicing Chris's colorful vocal style (in need of some recognition?).
This guy gives Vancouver a bad name!

i regret posting this, not for where it went, but because i did in whilst in a deep state of frustration.
i like apug and don't mean to drag them into anything negative. this is why i left out the name in the original post. there was also some yahoo on another forum that was handing out garbage about the zeiss ikon that was completely unfounded, purely made up crap. that form of stupidity just boils the blood.
i feel much better today.
went for my ritual saturday morning breakfast with friends and then shot for an hour or so on whyte avenue.
btw, i like the 28/1.9 on the cl - works just fine.

I posted the link to that site some time ago as well and Jorge recommended that we should not provide that ass with any more publicity than he is already getting and deleted the reference to that site.
In that spirit I'd recommend that you do the same as ignoring people like that is often the best treatment.

also be advised that he claims to visit here regularly, using his wife's computer and ip.

does anyone remember what name his supposed wife used when she posted here?
if so, please send it to me in a p.m. only.

Jorge or one of the mods can delete it if they like. I think everyone should be aware of what this jerk is doing because in some cases he is slandering specific people and businesses.

Next time, maybe better to look for a 24-hour deli than a keyboard? ;)

I have no idea what this individual has stated as I rarely visit APUG, but there are libel laws. Of course successfully suing someone and collecting are entirely different matters as this individual might well live in a rathole and wash dishes for a living.

Thanks, Rich! It wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be.

Part of being a photographer is being an observer. I find observing human behaviour very interesting.

Burn out.

Burn out.

i've performed my normal routine of doing my thing here and visiting a host of other forums today/tonight.

some times it's all i can do not to scream.

there are some fools and asses out there.
cretins who pontificate without a shred of evidence.

i could recite a litany of stupidity...and blatent lies.

some 'person' is telling all who will listen that rff is going digital and that all the film users are running to another site and causing trouble.
and he also dislikes strongly how i moderate, having no trouble spreading his word.

and the 'gospel' about how cameras are made and the quality control or lack thereof.

these people should be on the plains mooing with their more intelligent brethren.

i think i need a break or at least a good night's sleep...

1. What you describe is nothing more than the usual drama of any forum with even moderate traffic.
2. You are a moderator. I'm shocked you posted a thread like this. Every forum I ever ran had a private moderator forum where my mods could vent about things like this.
3. If said user is a problem then said user should be banned. It's that simple. If said user is a genuine problem (doesn't sound like it/ see number 4) and hasn't been banned then it's because your admin doesn't agree or doesn't support you. In that case either quit being a mod or get over and move on.
4. Said user (I hate threads where people don't have the guts to just say who it is/ see number 5) doesn't sound like a problem from what you described. Unless I'm missing something, you've been tasked with something to do here and NOT at whatever other forum you are talking about. Honestly if that user is doing something at another forum it's just not any of your business.
5. Directly address things. A mod should be above this kind of childishness. What I mean for example... A thread where I talk about a mod that is creating drama without actually solving anything vs. a thread where I address you directly.
6. If the admin is on the job then he'll lock this thread or delete it eventually.
7. You sound like someone that would be happier being a regular user vs. a mod. Perhaps you should give some thought to that. A forum like this isn't supposed to be hard work or something that causes you stress.

No offense made in any of the above. I haven't even bothered reading any responses in the thread yet. Your initial post caused such a strong reaction from me that I couldn't see the point. I hope I'm wrong and you work this out (and apologize) later on. Things like your thread belong in private.

I just ponder opening an invitation only forum and populating it with people I know won't be total asses. I'm still thinking of doing that. A place to share work in an invironment with other mature adults...sounds like a good plan to me.
This is one of the mildest internet forums I've ever seen. If you need somewhere just to socialise and total control of said environment then perhaps starting your own forum is a good idea.
