I recently got a N90 for $20 on eBay -

That's scary cheap when I consider I paid something a little over $1000 for mine brand new, in 1996. A terrific camera though.

Bought one brand new in 1996 as well, with the battery grip. Really a great camera, but a few years later I fell in love with an F4s and traded the N90s. Not sure it was such a good move.

Nikkormat FT for $5.98 from the APUG classifieds. Like all of the early Nikkormats, the meter is flakey but the shutter and the light seals are good. Combined with the 50mm/f2.0 pre-AI lens the camera is a real pleasure to use.

By a rough count, I have about a dozen Nikon SLRs only one of which cost more than $50. I have to start ignoring bargains.

F80 for $20. They had two of them in the store and I am sorry I only picked up the one. Most recently an F90x for $30, with the data back. I have way too many Nikon SLRs now and cannot possibly use all of them on a regular basis. My most expensive one is my F100, which I snagged for $100. I cant help myself when I see these kinds of deals, too good to pass up.

I haven't owned an F in over 30 years, I sure wish I could find a user condition black one with a plain prism for something less than an arm and a leg. I always preferred these in black over chrome.

A lady at my school brought me a prestine F3HP and gifted it to me because she appreciates how I do my job and she says she has no time or use for a film camera. I never did like F3s much, but I was able to later in essence to trade for an F2 with DE-1 which I had wanted since I was 9 back in 4th grade.

Doesn't a find imply that it was a great deal compared to what a camera usually sells for? Nikon SLRs that sell for low prices daily can hardly be considered finds if we can all find them (even if they are absurdly capable cameras for the cash).

Hi, John,

A "find" is exactly what I personally experienced with the new knowledge that pocket change can actually buy the cameras that produced not only historical photographs but also family histories. I never thought much about the old cheap AF Nikons... or any other, but recently, I realized even I don't need to have money to produce great photos!!

That was a find.. For me.😀

Dear Board,

I'm kind of old stuff and I like to be used, just like I like using my old camera gear like my $ 90.00 F4S and $ 16.00 8008S.

I guess this thread is proof that early adopters aren't always right? Furthermore, just because a model has been replaced doesn't render it worthless, though it might make it a great bargain to the next owner.

I never get rid of anything as long as it still works properly. Just ask my wife!

And when I say that I don't mean to imply I'm speaking of my wife! I have a house full of fully functional older things that most people would have long ago thrown away.

Doing that simply is not in my nature.

Ah, now that I am lucid from my morning focusing fluid from Starbucks...

I find this forum and friends like Bob to be amazing. Couple the kindred spirits with kindness like sharing a nice FM2n, and the world magically seems a better place because it is.

There are many of you here that I consider the best "find" of all and Bob was kind to remind me of that. Imagine donations on another thread of images to be displayed in the hand clinic at the Emory Rehabilitation Hospital in Atlanta. Yes, there is a common bond here. I am happy to have found you all.

I think I will stop by the local Goodwill store today!

Yes, good friends with free Nikons are the best find of all.

For my addition to this post, I consider the N80 I got with the AF-D 28-105mm a freebie, considering what I paid for the combo was less than what the lens goes for these days.

My other low bucks find was a Nikkormat FTn that was in a box I paid $200 for, that included the 50/2, and 35/2.8 non-AI Nikkors, plus a Kodak Retina IIIC with both its extra lenses in the original boxes with plastic bubbles, and a bunch of other goodies that brought the per unit price down to about $20 each.

Too many to count. I pass most along but am considering settling on a Nikon system for my film setup. Have some great F lenses right now but not sure what to keep.

I saw this Nikon F in a Craigslist Garage Sale ad and went to check it out...
I asked how much and he said $10
It came with some lens (I have no idea where that is now) and the correct Photomic Prism which I still have...I added a "J" screen to it...
I traded a Minolta 50mm AF lens someone gave me for the Plain Prism...the 50mm 1.4 lens on it was also given to me.
It has a 64650xx serial # and it works perfectly...probably the quietest shutter of all my gear...
Not in pristine condition but overall in great shape...
