Expired film--advice?

I've never tried shooting any very expired film before but I came across some today that piqued my interest. 3 rolls of Ektachrome (100 EPN, 64, and 50) and also a roll of Ektar 25 print film. All expired in the early 90's. Supposedly frozen until a couple months ago.

Anyway, any advice? Should I rate differently? Develop them differently? Any advice appreciated 🙂

If they really were frozen, they should be fine. I would just try one normally, and see how it looks. I developed some old negatives that I exposed 10 years ago, but never developed. They were not stored well. There was clearly added base fog, but they were perfectly usable.

Christian: Thanks! The person who sold them to me had absolutely no reason to lie about their past so I'm inclined to believe that they were indeed frozen. I guess I'll find out!

I actually like when it is expired... depends on what it is though! Fuji's superia looks amazing when expired. It does not look faded, but the ASA increases.

It would be good to catalog what different films do when expired.

I just got an AGFACHROME RSX 100, expired at 2005 back from the E-6 photo lab. The developed roll film looks to me like brand new, and I have a few more of these roll films to shoot! 😉
