I found 3 expired rolls of XP2 recently, and put it in the fridge. It had been in a box in the basement since I moved last year. How long past the expiration date would you try using it?

A long, long time. Especially with a black and white film. I just shot two rolls of Provia 400F that expired in 2002. They were sitting in my freezer though...anyway, they came out perfectly. With black and white you are not going to get any color shifts. The worse you might get is some slight base fog, but probably not. When did they expire?

Finally at home...
A couple of weeks ago I used an APX that had expired in 1999.
Worked well.

C41-based films will degrade faster than true black-and-white films but they are still worth shooting if they were stored in a cool place. Don't shoot anything critical with them unless you like to gamble, but I bet they'll be fine.
A couple of years ago I shot a roll of 1981 Plus-X and it turned out very well with relatively minor base fog.

They only expired in 2006. I'm thinking of using some to shoot some local buildings, and maybe some street shots. The unexpired film goes with me next week on my trip.

I've been shotting Ilford Pan-F that expired in 1999 and the couple I've exposed so far have come out just fine. No noticeable degradation/fogging of any kind. But this film has been in a fridge most of the time since before expiry, I'm told.
Al, they should be fine. I bulk-loaded some Pan-F and XP-1 back in 1984 and I'm still finding odd rolls of them in back corners of the fridge. They seem ok.

I got some XP-2 expired last summer of 06. Not even been refrigerated. Looks good. I shot a roll of Konica color film that expired in 2002 not refrigerated. Color was spot on.

I once (about 1982) got as a gift a huge roll (maybe 60 meters or so) of Gevapan.
Gevapan was produced by Gevaert. As Gevaert was taken over by Agfa in 1964, the film must have been about twenty years old - at least. I developed it in Rodinal, it came out fine!
