Explain your avatar...

A photograph of me taken in 2009 by my friend Jitka. I'm reading a book of photographs by Araki in my old flat in Hackney. Although I'm not particularly a fan of Araki it seems appropriate as I've been collecting photography books for well over forty years and often have my nose in one. It also reminds me of my old flat and my friend, who has since returned to her home town in the Czech Republic.

Me in my preferred outfit for trans-Atlantic travel...

Sleep mask,
airplane air anti-germ mask,
bottle of Xanax.

"Good night. Wake me when you can see Heathrow."

Cg

Yes, I admit the sleep mask looks like Barbie Doll's bra but it's the only truly comfortable one I've found.

I think this define the state of modern photography.

"The American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery reports that 55 percent of surgeons say people come to them seeking cosmetic procedures for improved selfies."

And most of those who come are asking to shrink their nose. Because it is too big on selfie.

This shot was taken by John, a Moderator here on RFF. It was just after a NYC Meet-Up and the guys decided to decorate me with their cameras like a Christmas tree.

I asked John if I could use his shot for my avatar and if could he set it up for me. The comment "Gear Whore #1" John added.

Initially I took offence, but after thinking about it the title was kind of appropriate. LOL. Understand I kinda promote myself as a lazy slacker, but I never really identified as a gear whore before.

A photo of my wife holding my grandfather's Viewmaster camera. My dad is the only person I know with all of his childhood photos on Viewmaster disks.

When in Key West I handed my M6 50mm cron loaded with Kodachrome 25 to a busker with a couple of macaws. If he ran off with my Leica, I at least had the birds to start a new career. The shot cost me $5. The film tells how long ago that was.

My wife took the photo on a evening walk on holiday in Italy. We were near a town called Citta Sant Angelo in Pescara. I was doing my best Arnie pose haha

Nothing has changed since I posted this in this thread back in 2012 except Mr. Robinson's heath continues to fail. He now has both legs amputated because of his diabetes. I still stop by to visit him and his daughter still has this photo next to one of President Obama over her fireplace mantle. This all came from me seeing him sitting on his porch and stopping the car then asking I could photograph him.

Mine is Mr. Curtis Robinson who I photographed in 2005 as a part of my South Apopka series. I still stop by to visit him but his health is poor.

I was looking for something bold and distinctive back when I joined RFF. This was a high rez scan of a 6x6 neg so I knew it could be cropped substantially. I never considered a photo of myself since I am one of the most ordinary looking people. Plus, the only photos I had of myself were self portraits that would not pass the "skin disclosure" standards here.

My avatar is sometimes my cat Gabby or as it is at the moment, my IIIg with 5cm 3.5 elmar (uncoated), quite boring really

My avatar was shot a few years ago in a hotel room, using a mirror. It was after a long day shooting an anti-war protest in Austin, and an even longer night of partying. This was shot with one of my last film cameras, a Bessa R2A. The photo was extremely cropped, hence the soft image.

I do x-ray imaging of flowers, shells and objects as an art form and sell through galleries and to museums. I thought It might be fun to see what is in a Leica IIIc and this is what it looks like. I've also x-rayed my M2 baby Rolleiflex and a few other cameras. It's always fun to see what makes things tick. I've thought about doing T shirts of various cameras and selling them.
