ok, i have found myself with 2 pk-13 nikon extention tubes and the and the 55mm micro lens - can the pk-13 tubes be coupled to create an even closer micro/macro experience...

Indeed. I have used a PN-11 tube coupled to a Nikkor 105mm f2.8D to get closer macro images:

If I remember correcty the 55 is natively a 1:2 lens. Your two tubes will get you to 1:1.

55mm micro Nikkor (any variety) goes to 1:2. With one PK-13 tube (27.5mm) you get to 1:1. With two such tubes, you get more magnification.
Shooting at greater than 1:1 is very demanding.
