External finder for 45mm on Contax G1?

I've been using the Contax G1 w/ 45mm for a few days now, and it's been working greatly for street and reportage but when I'm making quick grab shots, my eyes sometimes miss the finder. How well would a Voigtlander 40mm finder mesh up with the 45mm, if I allowed for a mental crop? Mainly wanting to know if the center point of the 40mm finder would be in a similar location frame-wise to the G1's AF bracket.

That should work well, or use a 50mm finder and crop.

Likely better than the G1 VF does. It gives only about 85% or so.

are there an 50mm finders that have a center crosshair? I've seen some of the wider finders (like the 43mm for Mamiya 7) have one.

I would advise against it. How do you want to control the AF system (position of AF mark, check that it hit the right range) without looking through the build in finder? Hitting the eyepiece right when trying to be quick, is most likely a matter of further practise.
