Yesterday, while shopping for a water filter for my lab, I saw a man whose face was known to me, but I couldn't replace who he was or where I knew him from.
It took me five minutes to remember that I took his picture, more than ten years ago. We even shared a shelter (with a few others) from bad weather for a day or so. The picture was not bad, but not a keeper, so I happen to see it from time to time among others. Of course this guy knows nothing of it, and it's not that I want us to be pals or something. I was just amazed how photography can create these situations where such an asymmetry in visual memory can be created.
I would be curious to hear other stories on the subject...
