I did this when I took a picture of me in my RFF hat.
I won't do it again - can't afford another cracked lens!

I took this self-portrait with my rangefinder camera, using an air release to trip the shutter. I am clenching the bulb in my right hand. Pretty stealthy, huh?

David,
I have a backpack like yours that I carry into the wilderness. My pack weighs 60lbs then I add cameras. Where were you going on that day. looks like a good 3 or 4 day trip
Ernesto,
I see your in Argentina. What is it like celebrating Christmas in the summer

Few photos of me exist, and so I am always surprised to find out I don't look like my avatar (I certainly feel like my avatar looks).
Here's a recent and rare photo of myself taken by my wife.

I wasn't backpacking on that one, Jorge--that's a ScopePak designed for big lenses like the Canon FD 600/4.5 I'm using there and for spotting scopes that birders use. Domke used to distribute the ScopePak. I'm not sure if they are still made. That photo was taken at the Jamaica Bay National Wildlife Reserve in Queens, New York, not too far from Kennedy Airport, and I traveled there from Manhattan on the subway. It's about 90 minutes by train from my apartment.
When I was studying in California, though, in the 1980s I used to do quite a bit of backpacking on the eastern side of the Sierra Nevadas, Yosemite, Grand Canyon, and such places. These last few years, it's been mostly day hikes, wherever I'm traveling.
Here I am just entering the Alpine Lakes wilderness in WA.

How is it celebrating Christmas in summer......
As a very big part of our population is from european origin (about 50% composed 70% by spaniards and italians), uses and traditions were more or less the same they had there. Then the food was for winter, it is, extremely heavy for +32ºC!! Fortunately it has been changed and things are "easier" now.
On Dec 24 families get together for dinner, and there are fireworks at 12 PM. The rest is more or less the same as you have there. Every one has a Xmas tree and there are some presents for the kids. This is the way we celebrate in the big cities. Countryside things change a little.

I knew I wasn't the only one who wears an REI floppy brim hat. Don't go pubbing with Russ wearing it though, he makes such a fuss.

Since this is my first post, I'll say a big thanks for all of the useful and enlightening information I have absorbed in the past few months. The photo attached is from my college days as a casino bartender, and 05/06 opening day at Bridger Bowl. The lady next to me was a Marilyn Monroe impersonator who was punch drunk and had just smeared lipstick on my left cheek.

Hello Frank and Joe!
I've been very busy. I have started a big project that'll keep my busy for many months. I'm working on a shibari art book. I work with a good friend of mine who is specialized in the art of the rope. We already have a few models who just can't wait to work with us and we're still recruiting.
I must confess I have created a very cheesy joke I use on the sets. It's really bad but it gets rid of stress. As I'm about to take a shot, I tell the model "don't move...1, 2, 3...". It works everytime!
Time to go to bed now. Cya!
