I attempted to fiddle with my R-D1s' vertical adjustment because the minor ghosting was very annoying. Unfortunately, the adjustment screw does not move the rangefinder down (the screw doesn't seem to move the rangefinder). The image improved the first time I nudged the bar. My second nudge wasn't as good. :bang:

I am disappointed to report that my rangefinder is now WAY OFF (Vertical and Horizontal).

I'll be calling Steven's Camera today... Anyone have any idea what this repair should cost me? :(

Thanks in advance...

My Leica repair shop in New Jersey charges around $90 to do an alignment, assuming nothing is broken. I know that's alot for a small amount of work, but I'd rather do home dentistry than work on my own cameras.

Have been warning about this for 2 years on this forum. The R-D1s rangefinder is not the same as that of the R-D1. Removing the top plate seems to be the only way to fix the problem with the R-D1s. No sense in buying an R-D1s. Now I'm even happier with my R-D1 even though it's resale value is less. Thanks for the info!

I agree... Given what I now know, I would opt for the R-D1.

Also, I emailed Steve's Camera and asked if he can swap out the adjustment screw for me. I'll let you guys know how things turn out.
