I am on the fence, thinking of selling my Olive Bessa R2 and 50mm f/2.0 Chrome Summicron. I have been in photography for close to forty years. I have a type of muscular dystrophy that has required me to go lighter and lighter with cameras – and so not too sure which direction to head in at this point e.g. tripod, Manfrotto magic arm mounted to power chair, etc.

That said I have been thinking of other fully auto cameras with excellent optics such as the Hexar AF. I am thinking in the direction of AE (M7, R2/3A) but the focusing is probably the most effort physically so should consider AF. I do have a couple of Leica AF-C1s and they are the camera that I easily reach for. Digital seems like a logical way to go though the high end cameras/optics are not light and would like a waist level concept.

Any ways as I was thinking of selling my Olive Bessa R2 35mm and Leica Summicron 50mm Chrome f/2.0 latest 396xxxx. Both are in perfect condition, include original box, instructions and manufacturer provided accessories. What would be a fair price to ask for each?

Does anyone have experience using equipment from a wheelchair?

Best,

Dan

Sorry I can't help with information about using equipment from a wheelchair or with prices, but I do think if in very good condition, the Olive R2 should be able to sell for upto $400. They are sought after, in fact I've been tempted often enough. (don't need another camera at this point anyway)..

As for your requirements, the Contax G series sounds like a good option. I would wait on other members' input though, as I don't have any first hand experience with one.

Sorry too to hear about your situation Dan. The bright part in your message is that you will keep on shooting.

I think $400 is a fair price for the olive R2. A year or so ago I sold one for $450 on ebay. You can do a search of completed auctions there to see what more recent auctions have closed at.

The Summicron is, as you know a very popular and excellent lens. Depending on the deals that the sellers have gotten when buying their equipment, you see them selling for very low prices on Photo.net. Occasionally in the $500+ range. With papers, box and in mint condition I think a price of $650 is not unreasonable.

Just my opinions. Good luck with what ever you decide on.

I have a Contax G2 and I like it very much. Focusing with the focus lock button on the back of the camera is quite easy. There are threads on this in the G2 section. The camera and lens feel like the weight of an M3 - which may be more than you want. They are all metal.

Possibly a G2 owner from the forum could bring one over and show you the operation, viewfinder, etc., before you commit to a new system. :) :)

I bought my 50 summicron (current) in black for $600 on ebay which is pretty average/low average for perfect condition. One thing I noticed was that the chromes tend to go for more though.

I think you will enjoy the Hexar AF. Be sure to try it first. It is not a small camera, but still considerably lighter than your present combo.
