Fair price for a CLA'd M3 link

NZ$650? Thats VERY cheap. Over here they ask a couple of grand for one and a grand for another in one shop alone. Ive not seen an M3 below a grand here. Also what does CLA stand for? I keep seeing people mention it all the time and have not found out what it stands for yet.

On the plus side, I did learn that Stephen Gandy apparently makes eyepiece protectors.......I take it that this is something that goes over the metal ring that surrounds the viewfinder window on the back of the camera. As an eyeglasses wearer who is always looking for something to stop scratching lenses in a way that will lower Lenscrafter's profits, this is very interesting. Does anyone here have one?

what's really funny is he is selling it because he got an 'unexpected' bill (10th anniversary).
did that just sneak up on him?

Geez I guess those leica forum guys at photo.net are really serious fellas huh?
More reason for me to hangout here.
That and the fact that I don't have a leica...
;-)

Do you guys really that thread was *that* "nasty & bitchy?" Pretty pointless, yes, but nobody was harmed & everything was resolved. Just wondering because of the "Leica is King" thread that I participated in that was deleted (IMHO very tame).

I have the protector Gandy sells on my M3 (& had 1 on an M2 I sold). It works great, but is a little pricey. As an eventual replacement (not needed yet), I picked up some protectors from Aki-Asahi (http://www.aki-asahi.com/store/ & http://www.aki-asahi.com/store/html/patch/M2M3/eyepiece/index.php)--they look different (fake furry vs. fake leatherette) but I'm sure they'll work fine, too. Shipment from Japan was fast & problem-free, BTW.

I put a rubber O-Ring over the eye-piece of my Leica M3. Not fancy, works, and very cheap. I also put one of those "stick-on rubber feet", like at the bottom of a laptop computer, onto the Hi-Lo meter switch of the Canon 7. They are both eye-glass savers.

As far as Photonet, it has beena free-for-all for a long time. People go there for an entertainment value of the flame-wars.

I noticed that the tone of the deleted thread was much different from what we're used to here and I didn't much like it. If anyone feels like a good argument, let's do it on photonet not here. There are lots of people who enjoy that sort of thing on photonet and would appreciate a post of that nature there. Not here.

It's perfectly all right to express your opinion, but it should be done in a way that respects others' right to disagree, and not give the impression that if you don't think/believe what I do, you're an idiot. That's not appropriate here and that's what I love about this forum - the respect that is shown here to oneanother.

it was tame, i agree. but i didn't like the tone, not for this forum.
the membership has repeatedly stated a preference for a forum without negative attitude. i agree with that prefernce and intend to do my best to maintain the status quo.
i love a good debate and a difference of opinion but not one that involves having other people feel badly.
there is already enough of that (crap) out in the world.
i prefer this be more of a sanctuary for gearheads/shooters.

Now you really got me wondering what had been going on in that deleted thread, that I missed...

Anyone who doesn't think the way I think or agree with everything I say should be dragged from their homes and beaten in front of their pets. I'd like to see the forum rules adjusted to reflect that.

I don't know what that guy had to buy his wife for their anniversary, but he should have sold a kidney before the M3. Two kidneys, one M3 - pretty easy call if you ask me!

it was a discussion about the relative merits of various camera manufactures and their cameras.

i like discussions but i don't like them when it starts to feel like someone is wrong for having a differing opinion.

it really was nothing compared to some other forums but i like rff as is and will nip in the bud any posts that threatens that.
obviously, with one thread deleted in a years time, this is not a problem or major concern for me.

Fair enough. We all have to abide by the house rules. I apologize for being pulled into the argument, but some of the assertions were . . . let's just say . . . debatable, & I'm a lawyer, so I guess I just couldn't help myself! ;)
