Fair price for Leica IIIf and Summitar

Hello,

I have the chance to get a Leica IIIf with a Summitar 2.0 / 50 mm from a friend (who was/is a collector and wants to sell it).

What would be a fair price for it ?

I imagine prices would be a bit lower in Germany (just a guess). Of course it all depends on condition.

Prices are a little higher than in 2007 especially for the Leitz lenses.
It depends where the camera is being sold and by whom and of course condition.
Reputable camera stores sell gear for more money than private sales.
Warrantee if offered on gear sold would make the selling price higher.

Dave Dsang earlier this year sold a very nice condition IIIf with an equally nice Summitar (I personally seen this combo at an RFF meet in Sept.) for around 550 dollars.

Who bought it got a very good deal in my opinion.

I would reckon it to be 300-400 euros for the two. Expect to pay for a CLA on top. The IIIf with Summitar is a nice combo, I have this myself.

Today I got the IIIf with the Summitar for 450 €.

The camera had a CLA about 8 years ago (according to the seller who ist a good friend fo my uncle and my parents and worked at a camera shop for many years) and looks and works very nice.

The shutter curtains looks good without visible defects, all times are running, the 1s seems to be quite accurate and the rangefinder seems to work correctly.

The glass is clear and seems to be without scratches, cleaning marks, haze or fungus.
The blades don't show oil, aperture and focus are smooth.

The camera is without dents or other wearing, exept a litte lost of paint at the markings of the fast speed dial and some small dents at the lens cap.

I am very happy with the deal! 🙂

Well done, that is a good price!

Condition is everything, but I think realistically a clean problem free Summitar would go for 270 Euro, and a IIIf body fully working and clean 370 Euro if both were bought separately. Both are becoming more sort after with the reawakened interest in film, and the Summitar can be used with an adapter on so many cameras, so its a good time to buy.
