fake?

fake?

so, not to be un-truting magus but what exactly makes you believe it's the real deal?
the dates seem right but all i've read says less than ten were made and there are literally hundred's of fakes...

I'd say the chances of it fake are about 99.999%.

I think the last real one went much higher and was from a reputable high-end auction house, not an anonymous internet bulletin board well-known for having quite a bit of scammers.

To quote a post from Stephen Gandy on the LUG list:

"...virtually all M4-2 and M4P half frames are fakes, made up from spare parts obtained from the closing of the Midland plant. Leica made the parts, but did not put the camera into production."

IMO, if somebody's looking for a half-frame M, at this price who cares if it's a fake so long as it works properly?

I'll bet Midland was like any other manufacturing plant - lots of personal work going on off the clock. This may have been an employee's personal camera. Remember the Johnny Cash song "One Piece At A Time"?
