Canada fall get together...or joe goes to toronto!

I'm picking Joe up from the airport and taking him to his B&B near Carlton and Sherbourne. Looking for a place to eat and meet around 5pm either up there by College subway station or down on Queen St. I'm not a local, only get into Toronto occaisionally. Some guidance would be appreciated.

Not yet. Can I suggest the Rex on Queen St between 12 and 1. We have used this place for previous get togethers. They let us move the tables around so seating is flexible. There are often photographs displayed on the walls stairs, and there is some outdoor seating if it is warm enough on saturday. I can't make it so if anyone has another plan, feel free to post it.

Re: Thursday. Queen Street's better than College/Carlton. Tell me what kind of food and a price range, and I can make suggestions. (Better in part, because although I worked on Carlton, that was years ago.)

I'm totally lost in this thread now... in Joe's first post he was initially talking Saturday the 17th which I set aside. Now I'm finding this is a meet up Thursday the 15th from 12.00 to 1.00 at the Rex?

Let me know what's happening and I'll let you know if I'm in or not.
Thanks guys

jan,
thursday night is for dinner, mostly for anyone who can't make it on sat.

there has been no venue or time picked for either day.

Right, I mentioned the Rex for Saturday noon. But someone can come up with another plan, I only suggested a tentative plan to get things rolling.
Thursday evening is still up in the air.

Re Thursday evening dinner

I think I read Joe is staying near Carlton and Homewood.
Possibilities:
Elephant and Castle at Yonge and Gerrard --- half hour walk from there; standard pub food; I don't like them because they don't support microbreweries, but I'll throw it out there.

A couple outside of the geographic range previously suggested: Caplansky's Deli at College and Brunswick (Carlton and College are on the same street -- not walkable from Joe's but good food)

Chinese. Garden Restaurant. Dundas between Bay and University. I prefer Spadina restaurants, but it's not a bad choice.

Queen Street. Queen Mother's or the Rivoli. Nouveau asian or something. Good. But entrees are around $15. So-so beer selection. Rivoli has more flexible seating.

Other suggestions. I love the Beer Bistro on King just east of Yonge for beer, but pricey for food. Nearby is Mercatto's. Upscale pizza, but not terribly expensive. Pizza from $13 to $16. Pasta more.

If you don't mind a walk or a cab ride, what about Rebel House at Yonge and Rosedale? Fantastic food and beer, super laid back.
