Fallen off the wagon

Today things were basically sorted for me. Leica have turned me around. I'm still sceptical about the M8 but I'm convinced they'll look after me being a Joe Bloggs customer. The service I've received since these problems started to surface last week has been swift and reassuring. Although I'm still not sold on the new digi RF on the block, I'm again sold on Leica's commitment to its customers. I'll spare the details, but in the end it just came down to people listening and an appology.

Tim

One thing I will say in favour of Leica is how well they treated me in dealing with my M8 issues. Excellent service from Leica UK - very helpful, very apologetic and no questions asked when I decided to call it a day. Same goes for my dealer. If they can just get their QC back up to the same standard ................

Hmmm.. Snip from LUF :

Jaap, I'm not sure whether or not a valid conclusion vs speculation can be drawn with respect to sales of the M8, from the existence of a backlog of lens sales. But there have been M8's coming up for open sale at dealers all over the US this week, which does seem odd if there are still people waiting for their M8 who put down deposits. I was told back in November that if I put in an order then, I would probably not have an M8 before summer. Now I can call up a dealer and buy one. So either Leica has multiplied their production capacity (I haven't heard that they have, but you're closer to Solms than I am) or else much of the initial demand has waned. I can't think of another plausible explanation, but if you can....

Just wondering, did Leica considered to pull an engineering feat that none has done so far (in 35mm world), that is creating M8 as a swappable back (digital *or* film) a'la Hasselblad or Mamiya with their MF.

Going through this route, they will have a much easier time with people who have problems with the camera, all they needed to be sent for repair is the digital back while the camera owner can shoot film for a couple of weeks, it sure will create much fewer backlashes...

Maybe Kodak's bid was lowest ;) The big difference between Kodak and Leica is that Kodak doesn't have a fan club willing to modify whatever definitions they have to to accept their products.

I don't know about that. The followers of the 14N went down praising Kodak for giving them such a fine camera. Where does this loyalty come from? In my book each product stands on it's own, bad is bad and great is great. A company is only as good as the last product they made and the service that goes with it. Neither KodaK or Leica have done a sterling job at either. Both are paying the big price too. Neither company will survive if there isn't a big change in service, products and attitude.

Actually my cousin just bought a pristine Kodak 14N and appears to be very happy with it.
