I have been out doing my 'thing' and this time as well as Kodachrome and a spot of Velvia and 160VC I had to use up, I decided to really go out on a limb and play about with Ektar. I've only used it twice at the end of last year but I bought myself 5 rolls to have a blast with. I find this stuff amazing! In the right light it seems to burst with colour that I like.

These are some shots taken last week, the end of the autumn colours almost but the colour and light was incredible. I think Ektar has done admirably and being colour negative, has more details in the shadows than I could hope for.

I should add these were taken with my Leica M2, Voigtlander Ultron 35mm with 81B warming filter and mostly all shot at f/2.8 to f/4, except the last shot which was f/8 due to the bridge ballustrade giving some stability.

So glad to have my Ultron back in action, it's a truly super lens.

I have also been very happy with Ektar. Ektar and Kodachrome are the two color films I use these days.

looks great! the colours are terrific.. 100 is too slow for general use for me, I'd like it if they released a 400 speed version in future - I won't hold my breath though..

Not so sure -- I used to shoot K64 as an available light film, with an f/1.4 lens admittedly...

Cheers,

I was about ready to give up on Ektar until I tried it with my Hassy and I got the most color accurate shots I've taken with film so far (which is a very short time).. I think the meter must've been spot on, because there was none of this weird color cast I got before.. A weird film, but so rewarding when it's right 🙂

It's very sensitive to exposure. Overexpose and it's oversaturated, often with unpleasant colour casts. Keep exposure to a minimum and it's pastel. And anything in between...

Very nice colors indeed !! For me, I prefer slightly overexposure:

I'm going gaga. Great fotos, I feel almost transported. Red car moving very cool.

EDIT: and of course here's Gabor with his prize winning foto, niice🙂

I used quite some Ektar 100 in 35mm already, but find it hard to scan consistently as there are no profiles for this fim out (at least not from SilverFast).

I had quite some amount of this stuff scanned with Coolscan 5000 by a small lab, but the colors came out quite wild (just follow the link in my signature - lot of Ektar stuff there)

So guys, how do you setup your scanners for the Ektar?

This is usually how I setup tricky film:

The rest of the tweaking is done in Lightroom where I keep a couple of presets for previously scanned rolls. I find that color profiles don't always work unless you expose in the same way consistently.

I'm heading into Manhattan now for a tech gig with a client, and I thought, "Damn, down to my last two rolls of Ektar...I'll hit B&H for some more!" Then I remembered that's it's Friday, then looked at my watch...

I'll survive till Sunday, of course. I'll just load up the little Contax with Portra...

And, yes, Ektar is just great. I usually expose at box-speed, unless I have something specific in mind, in which case I overexpose by about 1/3 stop.

I'm in the middle of scanning a roll of Ektar I shot yesterday walking in the woods in a local park. Here's scan one, from an Oly OM-2N and a Zuiko 135/2.8:

Things that are colorful should be colorful in photos.
