Fast Zenit Lenses!! OMG!!

They definitely don't look 'Luxury' like what was rumored. I don't really have any interest in carrying around massive lenses (that's why I enjoy rangefinders). I do think these will sell well at that price and it's good to see someone 'new' in photography!

I think Leica and Zeiss at this point should fold down - what need will there be for their lenses when Zenit is back ??? 😀

There's a lot of truth in that and some old Zenits are still going strong and a lot of expensive electronic marvels have failed completely because no one can repair them.

Worse still, some electronic ones have failed and could be repaired but no one will touch them based on bitter experience. A battery can corrode and knock out the entire camera just by destroying the lead from the battery to the electronics, which could be repaired quickly and cheaply. But, as I was told by a technician, no one will pay hundreds just to discover that their camera is beyond repair due to lack of parts. So no one touches them.

I bought a Leica R3 that went that way, I didn't even have time to buy a lens for it!

Zenit cameras, not having been rangefinders, would explain why they didn't go for the M market.

Even though their original press release about the camera line said it would be a luxury product (thus appropriately priced), the lenses seem to be priced more for volume sales. Enough even at a point where a bottom feeder like myself would be tempted. Now, which one?

PF

ps: If this goes well, maybe they'll bring back the Zorki!

But isn't Zenit just a brand name? Conceivably KMZ could make an M-mount version and brand it Zenit. It wouldn't make sense, but that is exactly why they might. 😀

Yeah, the 'take on Leica' thing is obviously a joke.
I have the Helios Zenit 85 1.5 in Nikon F mount and it's build quality and finish appears to match these new lenses. Which is to say it is very 'industrial'...
My lens does not have the auto diaphragm, while these new ones do, so that is cool. $500 for a giant 50 1.2 that is built to that standard is kinda pricey, seeing that you can still buy a new Nikon 50 1.2 AIS for $699, which is incredibly well made and finished, and very very good.
The Nikon lens is also a fraction of the size.

So, should we revolt and go back to FILM? 🙄

Yeah, I was surprised there wasn't an m mount version.

I don't think I want 1.2 KG pig on M mount. DSLR crowd, maybe. Personally, I'm tired of wrestling my 50 1.2L on FF DSLR already and it is twice less heavy comparing to this Russian Brick.
Where is joke already what 1.2 is mostly for exact weight info, not for max aperture of this Zenit lens.

Hi,

But the original Zenits were Zorkis slightly modified; hope this shows it.
