and so I picked up some rolls I had developed. I shot some photos at a Kings of Convenience concert a few weeks ago, half using new portra 400 rated at 800 and half using superia 800. the shots with the new portra came out looking better than superia 800 even with the 1 stop underexposure and with less grain.
 
I mainly enjoy Kodak Color Negative films. Portra and Ektar are the most used ones. Ektar is my favorite film and It takes the abuse of huge enlargement (Scanning) really good compare to Portra 160 IMHO.
 
Show us your best shot use of those films....🙂
I'm thinking to buy Ektar 100 to replace slide Elitechrome 100 Extra color to get vivid images.

I voted for Kodak Ektar 100 but it is on the expensive side so I use it sparingly ;-) Cheaper 135 films like Fuji Superia 200, Agfa 100 and Kodak Profoto 100 are great value for money.

Although I still shoot a little Ektar from time to time I really see little point considering the cost of development. I still do B&W in house just cause it just fun. Porta is just to expensive to have to shoot much of it.
 
I'd love to shoot Reala, if it was still available. The new Portra 400 is superb, too, especially for people shots. God, I hope Kodak isn't going to stop making 35mm film when (not if) they're going chapter 11!
 
Im a color guy.

For 100. If I want quality, then Fuji Reala. (I got 20 in the fridge right now, will use wisely)
For snapshots Kodak Profoto.

Dont use 200. Dont see the reason.

For 400. Superia 400. Buy them in 3 packs.


If talking wide then depends for what.
For just some picture taking... Fuji Pro 160 and 400.
If Im taking picture for some thing, then Portra 160 and 400.
 
Fuji Pro 400H for great flesh tones and detail in highlights.

Kodak 160 Portra NC 35mm exposed @ ASA 100. I have a portrait of my son taken with one of my Leica M6TTL's using the 135mm Apo lens with this film. 600 square inches (20"x30") and it looks like a hasselblad took the shot! Tack sharp, printed years ago on a Pollie with 20" wide roll paper. Don't be afraid to put a little "meat" on the negs, as grain isn't an issue and shadow details abound!

That "I never shoot color and never will" selection is cool. But I am guilty of shooting an occasional roll of color film, so I marked two of the films. Particularly Ektar 100 if there is plenty of light and I am confronted with strong secondary (browns/blue-greens) colors. With dimmer light and primary (red/yellow-green) color I prefer Portra 800. It's got plenty of contrast, and the grain is something a b&w shooter like me can appreciate.
 
Never was a fan of Fuji, but then I've never tried Superia. Personally I prefer cheap Kodaks like Ultramax and Color Pro, or Portra if price isn't an issue.
 
I develop color film with black and white chemistry.
Never managed to find a lab that wouldn´t put fingerprints and dust on color negatives.

I guess I should count myself as lucky in this regard: I have a fantastic little lab just a few blocks away from home that's meticulous in their handling of film, even when they do a fifteen-minute turnaround for me. They get virtually all my business now!

As I wrote elsewhere, Kodak canned their Portra VC films a short time back, choosing to offer one "flavor" of their 160 and 400 films. (There's only ever been one version of Portra 800.) Not a problem for me, as 160NC has been the backbone of my color work for close to ten years, with 400NC getting occasional use. Fuji Pro 800 used to rule the night for me, but its spotty availability, plus Kodak's revamping of their Portra 800, is making me reevaluate my low-light color choices. Ektar gets used for certain special projects.

Speaking of Ol' Yeller: did I imagine this, or are they rebranding their Gold line (which in some ways is underrated...I've had pretty good luck with the stuff since I started shooting with it again11 years ago, albeit sporadically) with the Color One name?
