I haven't tried Pan F in Rodinal yet. When you do, go by Ilford's processing recommendations. I've found Agfa tends to suggest times that lead to overdevelopment of Ilford films.Trius said:I think Pan F+ and Rodinal are next on my list.

Wow...thanks for all the responses.
I'm going to be working a lot with Rodinal in the next couple months. I want some good negatives for printing. I'm going to lay off the Diafine for a bit (blasphemy, I know) and try some other developers as well: HC-110, XTOL, and D76 1:1. I'm in an experimental mood.
I think I'll try and get some FP4, Fomapan, Delta 100, and Pan-F. I'll also see if I can find some Acros or APX 100 at a decent price. I'm wanting to try slower films in addition to my mainstays of Tri-X and HP5.

peter_n said:Max I have read in several places now that Fomapan 100 is a really excellent film. I think Freestyle is selling Arista.EDU Ultra for ~$17/100ft. roll so if you use bulk rolls that's a good source.
I picked up 20 rolls of 120 from Freestyle because I had heard rumours that it was pretty good stuff; I figured that at $1.20USD a roll, it would be a reasonable risk to take.
I'm really serious, this stuff is amazing. I spent a lot of time messing around with FP4+ and APX 100, both in Rodinal, and just never quite got what I wanted; the Fomapan (Arista EDU Ultra) gave me what I was looking for right away. Excellent contrast and tonality, the shadow detail is brilliant and the grain is really nice. My only real complaint is that it is next to impossible to keep flat. The negatives curl on the length pretty seriously, although once in the enlarger, there is no problem.
Did I not have 400ft of Delta-100 socked away in 35mm, I'd be getting some Fomapan 100 in 100ft rolls.
Cheers,

I'll most likely get it from J and C or Freestyle. I think both have it.

Stephanie,
Just to be clear, Freestyle sells both Fomapan Ultra 100 and Arista EDU Ultra 100...They are exactly the same product (Fomapan Ultra 100), just labelled differently.

Hm. Now I can't wait to get it. Wonder what luck I'll have with the films I already have to dunk in it.

If you can;t find Rodinal per se, get Calbe R09 from Freestyle or JandC.
You can make Rodinal out of Acetaminophen tablets, as per Donald Qualls recipe:
Donald also reported that the developer is still working after 3+ months and it looks like Coca-Cola (just like the real Rodinal)
I tried to brew the "Rodinal" sub today using the recipe quoted above. What I got has the colour and consistency of classic Tabasco Sauce
It would be at least two days to ferment the brew. But to see if what I got was indeed a developer of some sort, I put a spot of the "sauce" on a piece of bromide photopaper. The spot darkened (developed!
The developer seems promising. Have to try it with real film.
