re. the slinger-
it's the shape that looks different than i remembered not the size. i tought it was a bit more rounded in shape.
and you can't really see the strap in the pic. does it go round so that the bag rests more on your back/butt?

A footnote to the metering methods. If I'm in roughly the same light as the scene I'm going to shoot, I meter off the palm of my hand. That is generally one f/stop above 18% grey and I adjust mentally to put the mid-grey where I want it. A kind of 'faux-zone layer' if you'll allow the pun 😎

Though I don't have the R2, the R meters in the same way. I do like Tim, though often I also would just meter the subject and adjust aperture or shutter time so that the LED is showing a little overexposure. Green would be the meter's recommendation but I generally set the camera such that the green LED and right-hand red LED are showing (or just the right-hand LED, which would probably mean 1 stop of overexposure). I shoot colour neg film 99% of the time, and I have yet to fail with this method. When I ignore my own experience (in dark scenes for instance) I often end up with negs that give me a hard time scanning and in PaintShop Pro.

It's not easy to leave the Oly RC at home. Such a nice compact, well built and designed rig with a really nice 2.8 lens. A great viewfinder.

Joe, you're right. The centre LED is red as well, but round. The outer LEDs are arrow shaped.

Sorry about the confusion. I was writing from memory and mistaking the R's LEDs for the L's LEDs.

It is rounded, and slings over the shoulder and onto your back. There is a waist belt which I have not used.

lol, at first reading I tot you were professing your love for Tim! its interesting, does it mean your R's meter is constantly 1 stop underexposed?

Darrel. The meter isn't underexposing. I'm deliberately overexposing by .5 to 1 stop. It's a thing I do with the CL and the Bessa L as well. Even when I shoot my FED2 and meter with a handheld meter I ere on the overexposure side.

I find that the resulting negs give me scans that can be worked better in PSP, with plenty of details in the shadows. Highlights can be blown a bit (I should perhaps once try Silverfast or so) but I find that I often have nice detail in cloudy skies and at the same time detail in the shadows.

Going back to the original question - What's you favourite camera(s) - and which one(s) would you take with you travelling?

Favourite Cameras
1) Leica M3
2) Hasselblad 500C/M
3) Olympus 35SP

Which camera(s) would I take with me travelling?
I'm going up to Point Reyes in three weeks time for five days.
I will be bringing the Leica and the 'blad. The Leica for when I go hiking and the 'blad for more 'composed' and 'planned' scenic and portrait photos.

If I get something good I'll be sure to post it here in end-September 🙂

For its versatility, its weight becomes negligible. Of course, a wide strap helps a lot too. 😛

Point Reyes ? I watched a tv program the other day about a cheese factory and cow farm there, I think they invented the first American 'blue' cheese 🙂

Hard to choose a favorite camera, depends a lot on the kind of job, I suppose, but as long as they can work without batteries I'm ok 😎

On my last trip to south east Asia, I took my RolleiFlex T and a Konica Hexar AF with me. I also had alot of thinking which camera to take with me and ended up with those two.
As you also have these camera's, you should consider that combination, whilst they are small and light. The Rolleiflex took awesome pictures (10 rolls) and the Hexar was very handy high quality easy to handle camera.

I found the Rolleiflex to be an excellent travelling camera !
