fBay: 50mm F2 Summicron-M Rigid

I'm not sure what you think it's worth but $475 seems very reasonable for this lens. However I put a bid in, there is no reserve, so we'll see what the bidders think it is worth.

Never could figure why folks run six day auctions. No serious bidder is going to bid on it until the last minute anyway, and somebody here is going to point it out within the first few minutes after it goes up, anyway. 😉

I've done business with this seller. His opening BIN is usually very reasonable for ePay. His descriptions are spot-on, too

With regards to placing a bid on the lens to see where it goes - I sincerely hope that you are not playing games with this auction - because such behavior isn't amusing in my book.

I would hope not too, but don't see any reason to think so. I have sometimes done the same. Put in what my maximum bid will be and if I get it fine, if I don't fine.

My problem is waiting until the last minute, and not being able to get back to my computer. I forget, or something else in my life interfers and something goes for a ridiculously low price, but not to me.

All I'm saying is that if you are actually interested in purchasing the item, and you bid early, then other potential bidders will bid against you and the price keeps rising. If you care about how much you pay for the item, you bid at the last ten seconds or so, otherwise you are just giving others a chance to outbid or increase the price that you end up paying, if you win the auction.

I don't see anything wrong with simply placing a bid at any time
during an auction that represents the max you're willing to pay.
Especially on items that are not unique. If you win, you win and
vice versa.

I do it all the time and I often get good bargains that way. Items
that I supposedly "watch" until near the end often get forgotten.

The rigid Summicron can sell for more than $600, so the one sold at ebay was actually a good deal if the lens is very clean.

I visited this auction before this thread was started but don't recall seeing a "buy it now" button. Now the bloody auction is over and it looks like someone used buy it now.

I suppose I just saved myself $500?

Oh well, just frustrated is all.
