fear of strap breaking

Hey guys,

Has anyone used a Luigi strap where the leather threads into itself to secure the strap around the lug- a kind of weave.

It looks great but i'm scared that those shoelace type leather parts will break along with my camera! Has anyone used these? do they stand up to the test?
i'm almost thinking to ditch these pretty leather straps and use the regular Leica one as it appears bomb proof..

Luigi makes good stuff--I have three of his case, and one of his straps--though not the kind you describe. For safety, I might well avoid the latter. I use mainly the Leica straps. I'd say they are just about military grade!

leather straps are overrated...Made to look nice and feel nice , when that is the least important aspect of it..

the leica strap is the most functional and secure strap for the camera.

you've made the right decision trust me on this!

ever since i got the leica strap after trying a few leather ones , i've tested it thoroughly , on rain , while jumping holding it on a wall mount , and nothing..

Best part is if a buckle or the metal fails which it never does you can replace it easily..

At the end a strap should be more important about feeling secure about it rather than what quality leather it does have..

The strongest camera strap I have ever found is the Domke 1" gripper camera strap. I have this strap on every camera I own and have never had a failure of the strap in 10+ years of using them. To top it off they are a steal at $16 each from www.bhphotovideo.com

If you want what is arguably the most tough and reliable camera strap to be found, your search has just ended.

While the early indications are that nylon straps can be very good, one should remember that leather has been in use for a lot longer than nylon. I think the jury is still out on this one. 😉

I keep floating between putting it back on now. I searched online and haven't seen one report of a strap breaking.... this Leica one is just so god damn ugly!!

Hey Richie Rich... get a grip on yourself. It's about taking pictures and having a secure camera strap. It's not about posing with cheap overpriced stinky Linguini pasta.

I know I know...

I admit the reason I bought the M9-p over the m9 was because it looked nicer... Also I worry that the exposed metal ring things might scratch it. Why didn't they put those protector parts beneath the ugly plastic part!

My master plan is to reinforce the leather somehow.
Now to find a seamstress!

+1 on the Domke gripper, I much prefer it over the original Leica one.

this Leica one is just so god damn ugly!!

And uncomfortable with that solid plastic pad of teeth. Domke. I've used them for 20+ years with never a failure of any kind. They'll even supply you with replacement leather pads to protect camera finish (or they did 8+ years ago anyway).
