I learned from a Chris Crawford post that the Quadtone RIP is an easy solution to get rid of those ugly color casts that are the result of using the OEM Epson driver. Because I concentrated on just image capture for the past 4-5 years like a pit bull shooting mucho B&W film, with no printing, it seems like making hand bound limited art books in small editions seems like a productive way to edit and print though the headache I created. I'll take yours and John's advice and use the OEM inks. Also I need the empty carts. I imagine starting basically with just the Selenium inkset, but eventually evolve to either the split-tone or the carbon for those black-blacks.

BTW "Maggie" is rather excited because I told her about those proofs you shoved me.

Cal,,

you might want to pick up an R3000... Great printer with smalller picoliter, etc. Plus, you might want to print a color image (god forbid)...

I joke around all the time, but seriously one day I wore one of my old bicycle jerseys from the days when I was a bike bum and lived to ride. It was a very loud tie-die that kinda hurt your eyes.

BTW my gal "Maggie" is a fashion diva and she really hates a lot of my old retro clothing, especially those muscle shirts I wear that are so ghetto. LOL.

BTW did anyone ever tell you that artists by definition are exhibitionists. LOL. Perhaps this is why I got "A" listed. Anyways I'll bring a picture of me meeting Mayor Bloomberg that I recently unburied. I'm at Gracie Mansion shaking the Mayor's hand, but I'm wearing a very ghetto loud Hawian shirt and I look like a surfer. LOL. "Maggie" did not approve.

I'm thinking of going the other way and might need a Epson 7900 if I scan my medium format negatives.

For five years I only made negatives and had no regard for printing other than making dense negatives for wet printing. I shot crazy amounts of film, but now I have a big head ache.

Now it seems that I can take advantage of my winter hibernations to print and create limited edition art books to present my work. I did a really great workshop with a teacher from The Center for Book Arts and found making books to be like regressing back to kindergarten.

Books can be beautiful objects, and what other way is better for editing. John's books inspired me.

The Center for Book Arts is a great resource. Also printing on art papers is best on the "Pro" printers because of superior paper feeds.

I'm talking about very limited editions of books like 5, 10 or perhaps a dozen all bound by hand in a clever artful manner.

One book idea is "Street Porn." LOL

I mentioned this to John a while back. We should put together a book from our Leica Photo Group and print through Blurb or some other publisher... We should have maybe 2 - 3 images per member and see if we can create a nice hardcover - call it something like: "The Leica Group of New York"

What do you think?
 
Have you seen the last 6 years of Leica Users Group annual photo books that Jim Shulman puts together? They are published through Blurb and some of the proceeds go to operation HOME in Philly. They have all looked fantastic and stand as pretty serious collections of excellent photography.

Since the NYC RFF group is smaller you could also publish and print in tabloid format through issuu. That could be a more frequent thing as well since the group is smaller. Just throwing ideas out there. I'd love to be a part of it and I'd be happy to do some writing and layout as well.

wow, looks like I will be in town and able to attend a meetup finally. I'll bring a bunch of stuff to trade into a wide angle lens is anyone is looking to unload one. I will however, not be winning any beauty contests for my rig...

Jeff, maybe it shouldn't be Leica centric (since RFF isn't) and should just be from the people that attend our meet-ups. Nothing fancy, just have fun with it.

Definitely bring that book. Perhaps we New Yorkers in kind should do some better good. All I know is I'm very lucky and I would like to help others.

You would be shocked at some of the judging. It's basically a rowdy crowd, it's kind of bare knuckles fighting, with basically only one real rule that's strictly enforced: No Biting. LOL.

Anyways we are not camera snobs. 🙂

I'm not above bribing someone with the last 120 pro-pack of PXP that I (or any of my friends) know of...

I'm entering my M4 and DR Summicron, both complete with heavy tool marks from my ham-fisted repair with channel locks, files and bad screwdrivers back in 2004.

I *might*be able to get the 4x5 rig (Speed Graphic) out, I'll just need to get it out of storage. THAT is a camera for someone with developed arms! *wink, wink* Cal, the strap is such that the shooter usually uses their LEFT hand for holding. It's quite comfortable. You could use one to begin to balance out the muscular tone difference. 😀

M4's rule. I got one from Adorama for $599.00. Its a shelf queen that is in "E-" condition, but is rated "F" because its gummed up and needs an overhaul.

Funny thing is John stopped by yesterday to see the new Monochrom. I showed John the new grip I got for it, and it kinda turned his stomach. LOL. But then John enlists my gal "Maggie" to team up against me and Maggie says in other words" I hope he doesn't pimp out his new camera." LOL.

Anyways it's not time for the February Meet-Up yet, and the Beauty Contest hasn't started yet, but I'm getting slammed already. LOL.
