New York February NYC Meet-Up/ Fourth Annual Camera Beauty Contest

indeed John..

A loaded 15 inch Mac Book Pro with Retina screen is shortly coming. The latest advance offers 768GB SSD.

I won't be able to really find out what the MM can do until I build some skill post processing and print big. At this point the real bottleneck is my lack of digital skills.

My current computer sadly is a 2004 Titanium G4.

Just to let everyone know that I will be at Puck Fair around noon to secure the balcony even though the Meet-Up begins at 1:00.

I've been getting mucho PM's, the January Meet-Up had a huge turnout of "Jersey Boys," and then there was this element of a flash mob. I'm pretty sure that this will likely be the biggest Meet-Up ever, and I wouldn't be surprised if over 50 people showed up.

I believe Thambar is coming from Philly with two friends, Phil is coming back to the northeast from New Mexico, and I have a Christie's catalog that features photography as a "Door Prize" to the attendee that traveled the greatest distance.

Retro prizes include: a Annie Liebivitz book "At Work;" a retro Pana Vue that works; a second Pana Vue that needs a new bulb; a Norwood Director light meter made of bakelite from the 1930's that works, but needs calibration that resemble a Sekonic incedance meter, especially the swivel head and diffuser dome.

Anyways in New York crazy things do happen. Don't forget to bribe the judges. Last year Barrett was very generous and awarded many signed prints.

bummer. glad you got yours.

Leica got rid of the educational discount right after I bought my M9 in the fall of 2010. Not sure why but it was the only way I had access to a camera as expensive as the M9. I used part of my GI Bill to cover it as I was allowed a one time big expenditure. I haven't heard anything about any type of discount for students coming down the way from Leica which is unfortunate but they'll do what they'll do.

If you all want to have some REAL, SERIOUS FUN, you should schedule the next gathering for a Saturday and, after the meet-up, you should all head over to the new Leica store -- formerly Eli Kurland -- and harass our good friend Carl Merkin who has started working there (Saturday, being one of his two days on the schedule). Fifty or so of us should be quite a sight for ... for what? sore eyes? a headache? some trade-in negotiations (10-15 M9's for what M240's???)?????

Perhaps doing this wouldn't be Carl's idea of a good time UNLESS some of you guys & gals spend some money at the store.

Rob,

That actually sounds like a fun idea.

Also for those that were not there to see it: Carl has this "Brass Monkey" which is a black paint M2R with Leicavit that has about half its paint worn off. It definately is a camera that creates mucho GAS, but at one of our Meet-Ups Carl places it on the floor and proceeds to stand on the top plate as a demo of German structual integridy.

Crazy stuff happens at Meet-Ups.

Thank you. We will try to make it this Sunday. I understand that these meets happen in a pub, but Veronica really wants to come with me to "meet camera people". ;)

Sam,

You are the winner of that bakelite Norwood Director. I lobbied on your behalf knowing you were the person who would most appeciate it.

Don't worry, Cal--I think a future of $30+/ounce silver and six buck Tri-X will create many more opportunities like your M4 purchase. Had a great time on Sunday!

Bought mucho silver mining stocks as a hedge. Also as a new Leica Monochrome owner braced for the future. Meanwhile I will continue to shoot as much film as I can.

Already looking into buying Delta 400 because it's cheaper than Tri-X, although Arista Pro currently is still available for $2.89 a roll in 135. I need to buy 300 rolls soon before it's gone.

Thanks for the compliment John! The meet was lots of fun, and I am still trying to suppress the mating call of the Monochrom.

How does that sound ? ....mmh, mmmmh, mmmonochrom ?
THX a lot for the great luch experience, as I mentioned it's important to have someone who knows his way around with the waiters and the menue. Next time is on me !

oh Klaus, you are such a bad influence--the Noctilux on the MM....now that's a winning combination. I feel like the MM is the song of the sirens; and I am getting drawn in.

BTW, you are most welcomed about the lunch -- anytime. So glad we didn't spill fish sauce on the expensive gear.
