I'm sure you never sleep.
Why do I (does one) need to remove the prism wedge first?
Noel
Nah, we all just live in different time zones.
I assume it's to protect it from being smashed by our overaggressive prying.
About not damaging the threads, too late..... ~_~

The glass thingy is off! But not the collar... I guess I need to invest in a bottle of thinner (to clean the dirt out) and a small spanner, since the ones I have are more at home repairing tank threads...

If you've take the optical wedge out you'll be left with the collar and that can be undone with a just a flat thin bar, scissor blade, knife blade etc. Lay the bar across the collar, lying into the two cut-outs. Press firmly into the slots and use the bar to undo it. Just undo it enough to get it moving, then use fingers etc so you minimise the risk of scratching the chrome top. They can be tight but not usually TOO tight.

Oh! I see the light! Well, hopefully not. You turn anti clockwise eh?

Yes, we have lift off! Thank you so very much all! I'm leaving it at this for now, till the shutter curtians arrive.

I do sleep, but just lightly.
When the wedge is off, the retainer gets to be exposed. This can now be turned using a spanner, or as Ken suggested, any thin-bladed tool which can span its notches.

Pls PM me where I should sent the shutter cloth. Ken would have told you about this already. Got a spare strip, cut to proper FED-1 size already.
