Hi , having praised Oleg in the past for my now super smooth Fed / "Leicas '' - and my Kievs 4 and 4am ... my Fed 2 from him has no clip on the spool ... an oversite , he has admitted .

is it removable ? - because my Oleged Fed 2 is so much better than the budget one I bought before - if I could change over the spoool , that would do until I get another one ...

Having said that, Oleg has real competion from a Fed 2b , just received , which has been restored by altai and is like new inside and out ...

I think the take up spool on most Fed 2's is removable by design. Try pulling down gently on the spool; it ought to pop out, and you can use a good spool from another 2.

Thanks guys - it does come out - took one from my threesome [ red / blue / green ] bought as budget set .I might take you up on that spool Alan - will contact you about how much etc separately o leg may be sending a spool - the pointis that i can test drive it now .

Hi Mike -
I bought 5 cameras from altai on e-bay - all superbly restored ; Zorki I / Fed I / Zorki S / Zorki 2S - and the Fed 2 b ... went a bit crazee because the really were immaculate - this has blown away my so-so opinion of the finish of USSR cameras - i had previously only seen tired ones or my immaculate reclaimed Leica copies .
So the Fed 2 was a ''new ' purchase .
altai does not sell much but when he does ...
My best working Fed 2 , I bought from Oleg - better than the altai one in respect of smoothness - rivals my cla Leica IIIc , dammit ! But the Oleg camera had this broken spool ... cosmetically it's honest , unmolested and very good indeed ... but the altai one is like new - I don't know how they do it !
I rather like '' as new '' and am happy to go the restored route , but I like my good but signs of use cameras too !
