I have a small irritation with my marvelous Fed 2. It is the Fed 2 version with a film advance lever. The issue is it has a squeak when I advance the film for my next shot. The sound does not occur when there is no film in the camera and there are occasions when there is no squeak when I wind on. I have read somewhere that the bottom end of the removable Fed 2 spool move around and the film sometimes rubs against the flange on the spool. Any thoughts on this issue? I have thought of looking for a washer to fit over the end of the spool that would rest in the lock in the removable back to prevent the spool movement.Thanks.

Try with a wasted film and the back open to see if the film gets rolled up to the take up spool and through the sprockets correctly. It is easy with these cameras to attach the film leader incorrectly resulting in a rather side way pull of the film. In some cases it is so much off that you get the frames up to the film's perforations.

Thanks. However I have done that and there is no squeak. Also with no film there is no sound. Occasionally a whole spool will be wound with nearly no squeaks. Sometimes every advance produces the noise.

OK more info. Just ran a cassette containing a short piece (approx 15 exposure) of developed film through the Fed and there was no sound, just a quiet smooth advance. I then ran a 24 exposure exposed, but wasted, cassette of undeveloped film and again, no sound.
I also noticed that the latest 36 cassette in the camera was squeaking until about the twentieth exposure AND THEN SILENCE.
If anyone has had a similar experience or have any suggestions/ideas please pass them on.
