This is my first time using a rangefinder and thanks to Kim for letting go his Fed 2. I am rather pleased with the use of rangefinder and especially the colours, sharpness and contrast the lens produce. I have attached a few photos.

But i have some problems again. I checked all the frames on my negatives, the top right corner always have some black area, which means the mask is actually blocking light from reaching the film. I have done something to it and will test the camera again. i hope its no big problem here.

The masking cut-off seems to be very common with Zorki's, Fed's and Kiev's. It doesn't seem to be affecting anything else. It is characterized by a hard line at an angle across one corner of the frame. My own preference would be to leave it alone and crop the final print. Your results are excellent and at some point the advantages to be gained from further fine-tuning might become marginal at best.

One exception would be if the film were riding up across one of the rails. That could affect sharpness because the film would not be flat. I have experienced that on a Kiev-4A and fixed it. However, on my Zorki's and Fed's, the angle of the film was not a problem. Your examples all seem to be very sharp, so I doubt that you have a film flatness problem.

The problem, IMHO, is caused by the extra heave or edge sticked out behind the lens and just before the film, very near to the film. You can image of drawing a line from the most upper point of the lens to the most bottom edge of the film window and see if there is any barrier in the way.

From the looks of those shots (I particularly like the second one - the boat). I second Paul's post, don't mess with it, just crop the image. I wouldn't spend too much time tinkering with this camera, you got a keeper there.

Hi,
I must admit that I did not see a problem before I sent the camera. I have just looked at the test shots I did and there was not a dark area on them.

hey kim, worry not..i have dismentled the small metal part which is jus infront of the lens and modified it alittle.
I have checked all the frames on the negatives and confirmed its the piece of metal which is cutting the image off alittle. I will take photo of it soon when i have the time. I am still very happy about using this rangefinder and even considering selling off some SLR lens to buy other LTM lens.
