I recently bought a FED 2 on eBay from somewhere in the FSU, but instead of a removeable take-up spool it came with a fixed one, which looks exactly like the take-up spool on my FED 3b. It also came with a crusty, reloadable film canister in it. So I'm wondering, is the fixed take-up spool a modification? I think its a later model FED2 (serial# 9940299). It has standard shutter speeds and a mushroom winder.
Also do you think the eBay seller was trying to fool me or something by sticking the the reloadable film canister in there (see attached images)?

Actually, I'd be rather pleased if somebody had already done that work for me - no more problems with losing spools...
Jim Blazik has a description how to use the fixed spool from a donor FED 5 for other FEDs on his site...

The only tool needed is a thin bladed screwdriver. I've done the Fed-5 switch. I think the fixed spoool from the Fed-3b and the Fed-4 are also the same.
The later versions of the Fed-2 came from the factory with the spool installed. I believe the Fed-2 production may have overlapped the Fed-3 at the factory.
