For some reason there are currently many Fed 2's on ebay, with the result that this quite desirable camera is available dirt cheap. Most have the 2.8 Industar, but there are a few with a Jupiter 8 as well. I know the usual advice on the list is to buy old Russian cameras from a reputable US dealer- generally good advice, I guess, but these are so cheap that if it turns out to be no good, you can always toss it or use it for parts. I have bought maybe a dozen Russian cameras from miscellaneous Russian or Ukrainian ebay dealers, and I think I only found two that had significant problems.:bang:
Best deal was a really nice Zorki 2 for about 70 bucks.

or buy from a reputable Ukranian/Latvian/Belorussian/Russian dealer, after all they had no Enron/Lehman bros/or Bernie Madoffs to show them how to do business, [this is just a good natured dig at the assumptions made] , after all when things are soo cheap how can you lose? regards and good luck with world domination of Fed 2`s,

A very good point. We don't have much to be sanctimonious about lately. Generally a high-volume eastern European dealer with a lot of experience in these cameras is your best bet. As always before buying on ebay, have a good look at the feedback. I especially like feedbacks about how easy it was to have problems resolved.

Haven't you heard?

(Take advantage of it while you can.)
PS - I heard this the first time when they introduced Poloroid.

Or take the FED-2 Arsenal's Boris Yamshchik is offering, no. 370260323397, which he's selling for about $750, claiming it's a preseries model. I have to tell all my friends to get into the business of cranking out preseries FEDs now, putting Zorki-style shutter speed wheels on the cameras and putting random screws in the body.

Hey, Pakeha, tenaque. I agree. For the money, how can you lose? If it's horrible (unlikely but possible) a great source of parts.or buy from a reputable Ukranian/Latvian/Belorussian/Russian dealer, after all they had no Enron/Lehman bros/or Bernie Madoffs to show them how to do business, [this is just a good natured dig at the assumptions made] , after all when things are soo cheap how can you lose? regards and good luck with world domination of Fed 2`s,
My Fed-2 recently showed signs of fading in the shutter curtains. A bit of black linen paint and all is well again.
Only complaint is the dioptre adjuster - fixed it in place with a blob of hot glue. Nobody else in a mile radius of here is likely to use this camera. Easily removed should the need arise.
