FED 5 "C" or "S" New from factory for you !

Anyone who's interested for a nice beautifully working FED 5 with accurate lightmeter, case and box can contact me. It is new-old stock (was in its box since 1991 year of manufacture) I'm selling it around 60 $ a little much than those you can find on the bay but I 've corrected some little things, like rangefinder adjustment, lightmeter adjustment, lens to film distance check, I've removed some dust in the lens, re-lubbed the lens helicoid, cleaned the RF because it was foggy and I've tested it with film, so it is a reliable camera for you guys ! Snappy shutter, smooth action of all commands, spent three hours of work to give you a nice cam' !

I can't find it ugly.
It is a rough design, for sure, but it is a well constructed camera.
The mechanic is of very good quality and very good craftmanship.
The finish is not as good as the previous FSU cameras, but it can make a nice travel camera;
It has a rapid wind lever, a big and bright finder with parallax correction and you can put a lens hood and still see through it , a built-in exposure meter that requires no batteries. we are sometimes proud of our nice looking cameras, to show them with snobism, and staring at them, but in the deep north african villages, I'm not sure the dromedary will say : ha ha ! look at his ugly Fed 5...!

Well, while I also find the FED 5 ugly, I agree that it is nice as a user camera...
One thing - I think you made a mistake in your description: the FED 5C/S is the only one in the series that has framelines (at the expense of diopter correction), but as far as I know, those are NOT parallax corrected...

I am sure it is functional and great user camera... i know nothing much about it, in fact...
Just it looks weird to me, it's just me...and my weird taste🙂
It's not about cheap or expensive, soviet or western, old or new.
I also think the contax I with its pimpled face is ugly as hell.
And the leicas too, the ones that have the slow-speed dial in their front...

What's also very nice about the FED 5 is that it usually comes with the Industar-51 L/D, a very good lens!

The Fed 5 is a workhorse, it's looks are, to me at least, not important. The fun part of the Fed 5 is that just about allways works, no batteries, one big piece of camera. I'm very fond of my Fed 5. And it can be a great conversation starter aswell, being Russian 🙂 The lens is (I also have the 61 L/Z) is great. And it has no problem if you mount a Jupiter 12.

I had to sell mine because it SMELLED so bad!

I had bought it "new," but it had been sitting in that stinky leather case for years. Every time I brought it up to my face to sight through it, I got a nose-full of that strange FSU mildew aroma.

Way back when(mid or late 80's I think) I owned one of these. I bought it to do some 35mm pinhole photography and I'm pretty sure I never used it with the lens. I am absolutely sure I didn't know what a good deal I had.
Foolishly I sold/traded it for something else after a few months. :bang:
So, I am interested. PM me if no one else has spoken for it, please, and we can work out the details.

I own 3,5 Fed 5's: 1 ordinary Fed 5, 1 with red covering, 1 black Fed 5c and 1 parts camera. So I'm not really in the market for another one. I think the Fed 5 is an excellent shooter, the lens is great, the finder is reasonably bright (not Leica bright, but very usable) and the lightmeter is not the best, but handy in most 'normal' lighting conditions.
But what I liked most is the 'out of the box' experience. It's just great to get this brand new mechanical camera with Russian manual (with handwritten passport), 'leather' everready case, little handtied bag of sillica gel and empty filmcartridge in place all packaged in styrofoam box and cardboard cover with blue quality control stamps all over it, for the price of ??? a few rolls of film, or a small set of screwdrivers or a few hamburgers at MacD. A Fed 5 is probably the LTM camera with the most value for it's price. The only camera I know that can compete with it on that parameter is the Zorki 6. But Zorki 6's are a lot older and usebility depends much more on maintenance and usage. My Zorki 6 is not nearly as smooth as any of my 'new' Fed 5's
